SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at ARIZONA CARDINALS - 2020 Week 16

There's times when it's ok to lose. Myles Garrett . . . Solomon Thomas. There's only a 35 sack difference. No biggie. Think long and hard if that win was worth it. Yeah we got lucky that we sucked bad enough the next year for Bosa but you don't alwaya get those breaks.

But here yeah you play to win.

Exciting does not mean he's consistently good.

This right here. Yet you have people on here hoping to get an "exciting" rookie in the draft..

I shake my head at the "meaningless win" crowd and their frustration that we didn't lose. There is no meaningless win - all foster a culture of success. Sure, some of the players from today won't be with the team next year. But others will be. Rookies and free agents will want to come to a team where the culture is such that even after 20-odd starters in IR, this team is so well managed and the players are so bought in with the vision of this management that they go out and dominate a team fighting for its playoff life. I was delighted to see the way we played today: professional and ruthless and cleaning up the mistakes from the last couple of games.

I also saw the early game with Detroit not even bothering to turn up. Embarrassing. Do you prefer to root for a team like that? No higher draft pick is worth this.

Good post. Definitely not a meaningless win for this team. For the reasons you mentioned and more…for the players (especially the key guys), the coaches, the FO...the entire franchise from top to bottom.

Spoon had his once every so often great game.

Some random called Barrett flattened Kyler into the turf.

Warner/Greenlaw were all over the place.

Verrett made life tough for Hopkins.

Kittle made a difference.

CJ was efficient with only one TO that didn't cost anything.

Wilson Jr and the OL were all over them in the run game.

I'm sure I've missed a few.

Nobody played themselves out that I could see or think of. Pretty solid across the board.

Yes you do. OK, so we didn't draft Garrett. We could have drafted Mahomes. Or Adams. Or McCaffrey. All from the same draft. Drafting (and failing to develop) Thomas has exactly zero to do with winning the previous year.

Professionals play to win. They don't tank so that their replacements get hired/draft in their stand.

So if I, sitting at home on my couch, would have rooted against my own team then we would have Miles Garrett today? Oh I didn't know that. If I did I would have.

The point is that rooting against your own team won't change the outcome of the game or the outcome of the draft or the quality of the player drafted. The only thing you accomplish is not being able to enjoy Your team win a game
I'm just happy to f**k up the cards playoff chances

Draft position is irrelevant if you can't hit on the picks.

There's zero guarantee who you pick will turn out to be any good. None.

Very true. Easy to forget him when he's so consistent and often hidden amongst the bodies just doing his job.

People give their thoughts on the team's direction. That's part of being a fan. You can be upset when the team loses/ hires someone you don't like/ etc. Just sticking your head up your @ and taking whatever lousy product you get doesn't make anything more enjoyable.

Just an example but I actively rooted against us when we hired Tomsula. You got to break some eggs. I know how it ends the quicker he fails the better. Winning a meaningless game and costing the team a superstar is something as a fan you can vent about. It's not about influencing the result. It's about not celebrating a win that you feel will hurt the team in the long run.

Again though that isn't the case here and I'm glad Shanny is playing. Beating division rivals when they need a win and we don't will carry forward.

NICE NICE !! and.. .

still not seen any highlights... but if you say Wilson and the running game were thumbs up, it just show that we should have done this against them in week 1.

I like Wilson a lot, he and Mostert really reminds me of AD & TD !!

Yep a lot of fans come from participation trophy places. What is the point of cheering for your team to lose. How can that be enjoyable. There are guys in here that probably do believe thier team would tank. Just like they believe that the NFL tells the refs to help or hurt certain teams. Anyone seen Sasquatch lately.

Remember the story where they gave second graders a marshmallow and told them they could eat it now, or wait 20 minutes and they would get two marshmallows to eat. They were followed into adulthood, and sure enough, those that would delay gratification for a bigger reward later proved to be far more successful in life.

Not saying you should not enjoy the win. Just saying there are two legitimate approaches, and it's best not to be judgmental.
