It will alway be easy looking back but the Bears at least tried to draft a QB. We had our pass on Rodgers moment again, but it was worse with Mahomes beating us.

We drafted a future HOFer in 2017. That alone puts a big old leak in your bucket.

I am going to upstage you here. I have been pissed since 2000 when we missed on Tom Brady and drafted Giovanni Carmazzi who is managing goats now. Point is this....it doesnt matter who you draft unless they fit in your system and you have good coaching and ownership behind them etc. If we would have drafted Brady or Rogers it would have been a s**t show because we didn't have the right coaching stability and ownership was far to naïve and immature. Fast foward to Patrick Mahomes there was no guarantee on him coming out of the draft. Word out of the Chiefs was that he was a project. Going into his second year exceeded their expectations which prompted them to trade A.Smith.
Overall point is you draft to fit your system and do not let personal feelings get in the way, and you don't take chances in rounds 1-3 because those pics are starters. Lynch's first year did both of those. He drafted Thomas and Foster, both an emotional pick and a risk. If I was in his shoes in my first draft I would have drafted someone I had a history with in Thomas versus a project in Mahomes and a risk with high upside in Foster in my first draft because you never know.

5 guesses as to who in the organization wanted Gio drafted.

Walsh

Ya, that Walsh was terrible at evaluating players. He had a big swing and miss with Nehemia too. Back in those days, the team was so good and deep that they could afford taking chances. Now you have to be more selective.

Why did they replace Rodgers State farm agent in the 1st place??

While they've struggled through their drafts, you can't blame them (or anyone really) from passing on Mahomes, a developmental project who didn't win in college.

The Foster move wasn't a bad one - the problem was throwing him into an immediate and undeserved leadership role, while throwing Bow to the curb.

It's a stretch to give them much credit for the Kittle pick. Shanny has admitted when he decided to unnecessarily move up for Beathard and then again for Williams, he fully expected to miss out on Kittle - and was comfortable with his decision.

Let's take this convo over to the appropriate Lynch or Shanahan threads.
