Our big issue last season was back up Quarterback play

Kyle Madson. Where you at? I know he must be in the zone somewhere.
In fact, bolstering the depth chart behind Garoppolo is probably a greater priority than putting together a trade for a new starter.

I think if some of the silly talk about Cousins and Rodgers etc, would send many fans in to apoplexy, because what KS says here is true.

Nope, half the damn team was on IR chief.

Not the oline though. four guys with over 1000 snaps there.

One of the big issue last year was no starting QB.
If you can't rely on your starter you already lost. There really aren't many teams that continue to win with their backup. Philly did with Foles but most if the time the season ends.

We stuck with Mullens because he looked promising when he played 8 games in 2018.
Bethard played well enough to keep us in games but would blow it late in 4th quarter.

Jimmy G is 24-8 as starter. That is average of 12 wins a season which will put you in the playoffs every year.
Watson is 28-25 or 8.45 wins per year. Rodgers averages 10.6 wins per year. Brady is 12.3 games per year, Mahomes is 13.2 games per year.
People are mad he is not as good as Brady or Mahomes and he isn't and he won't carry a team like them but only a few guys in a generation do.

Jimmy could win a Superbowl but not on his own like Brady & Mahomes. He would need to catch a few breaks. I think if we played NE last year our defense would have kept us in the leads, but mobile QBs they have problems defending.

All that said he is hurt a lot and upgrading the position with either a starter who can stay healthy and win games or a capable back that can cover a stretch where Jimmy can get healthy and not rushed back into the lineup like we was this year.

Yeah, but is there a better Quarterback coach then KS in this league? This guy can coach up QBs and make ordinary QBs look very good. Then why was our backup QB situation such a mess? U can't tell me he is only good with starters. Did he take off his evaluation hat for backup QBs?

All teams in the league have issues when their starters get hurt. The backup QB is just that - a backup.

I guess at the time they had an outside chance of getting to the post season. Lynch got the backups for Kyle.

So the question is did KS choke......again?

Yeah, but Kyle would have had a say in the back ups too. He should have evaluated who he wanted as back ups and tell Lynch to go get them. The evaluation of Mullens was way off. That guy should not have made the team.

We had rather more than most and some key players were taken down.

The starting O line seriously needed an upgrade.

And our starting centre has been on IR since 2019. He is the glue. The only otherone deserving of being a starter is Williams. The rest of the Oline are at best second stringers.

Without a doubt we need to overhaul the OL. Williams should be the only one coming back.
