Well said, JonnyDel. We all miss him and his marine like attn to detail and his incredible ability to get the most out of each and every one of his guys. The guy who lived to coach the OL, and loved every minute of it. Some guys you miss more than others but Coach Walsh and Bob are right up there at the top. And we do need a Bob again.

Preach.

He was a true great, a true great. Just one thing though. Only one person in the thread so far has spelt his name correctly.

One of the few coaches to be there for all 5 of our Lombardi's. Coach Bobb was badass and made legends. Cheers to you Sir 🍻.
(also glad to see a few of us on here born in the 70's and beyond 🤙🏽)

Never forgotten. We never used to worry about our OL with him around. Plug and play and not miss a beat. When you can get coaches like that it truly makes a team special.
Pats had it pretty good with Dante Scarnecchia(sp) as well

It's him and Scarnaccia, right? I think that's it for post-70's OL coach. And that hogs guy. Hanafin.

If our current OLine coach sucks, we aren't making the super bowl next year.

Such an underrated part of the 49er dynasty era.
Maybe for the New, the Maddenites, and the "I only really care about Fantasy Football Fans.
McKittrick was about Agility, Speed and Strength from his O-line, vs how much players weighed.
The Forty Niners never had the biggest O-lines BITD, but they were effective in both the Run-Game,
and Pass-Pro
Their run zone blocking scheme was hard to deal with, and always had opposing teams Crying Foul,
as to how the Niners blocked. So much so, to the point of being called dirty players. You could call him
the God Father of the Modern Run Zone Blocking Scheme.
IIRC, wasn't he an ex-Marine ?
Yeah, good idea @pdizo

Imagine if we had had Bob for our OL coach these last 4 yrs. First of all, we would have had better talent because besides being the world's best OL coach, Bob also had a great eye for OL talent. When he saw one...or several...he went to Bill and if he told Bill to get that kid from Texas AM & G NW, Bill was sure to do it. Back then, tho, it was a different game as we had guys that were more in the 280 range IIRC, but could really move. In effect, a Kyle type OL. But even if we had better talent, even with injuries, Bob would have coached them up.
I don't think we would have seen McG go backward and not be coached up. Granted there is nothing one can do for injury, but even with young guys, just off the Walmart parking lot, Bob would have them whipped into shape shortly, as long as the talent was there. Just thinking about that makes me appreciate him even more, but also, how can you not love a guy who just wants to coach OL as his main goal in life...and he loved it.
Truly he was one of a kind and they broke the mold after they made him. Man, i miss him. Which reminds...a great OL coach can be even more valuable than a great OL player. And Bob was one of the truly rare one of those.

Lots of good points and things I remember about him, mainly:
- would have had better talent
- had a great eye for OL talent
- even with young guys, just off the Walmart parking lot
- a guy who just wants to coach OL
The Niners through through a run of 5 SB's, never had to worry
about replacing their O-Line Coach … now that's stability

Watching him on the sideline in shirt-sleeves in 40-degree weather was legendary stuff.
