IIRC, the Rams wanted to hire him for their OC position. Can't remember if he simply turned it down or if Eddie D bumped his pay as an incentive to stay.
I'm glad he did. He was the best!

Who was the genius who spelled it correctly?

I recall a story about the 1988 NFC Championship game in Chicago where the temperature was in single digits. Bobb was in short sleeves as usual and was shivering on the sidelines. Bill Walsh had enough and said something along the lines of "for the love of god put on a jacket Bobb!".
Two legends who will never be replaced. They brought us some incredible memories. May they both RIP.

What an impressive human. I have no doubts in my mind Kyle worships Coach Bobb's work

We need to bring back the god damn leg whip. Watching the 88 NFC championship game ,what a beautiful football game.

Bobb was great but he would have to adjust his coaching style in today's game. The leg whip and crack back blocks are now illegal. They were a staple in the Niners glory days. They were borderline legal then and the Niners used them to perfection.

He would have Brunskill kicking ass at LT and Coleman would play C somehow. Guy was an absolute legend

Bump
he would turn our current Oline into a beast.
we wouldn't even have to draft one this year. Great coaches are as valuable as great players

If ShanaLynch ever finds mckittirick 2.0, gotta make him assistant head coach. I think he'd be that important to kyles scheme success and long-term 49er success.

Thing about that tho is today, any asst coach, especially a great OL coach...is going to go all out for you. But...at the same time he always has his eyes wide open and his ears to the wind for that asst HC / OC/ potential HC slot.
With Bob...it was never like that . He loved coaching OL, loved his guys, adored his HC...and never wanted anything else. Today's guys? Always looking for the next step up. Bob found his niche, knew he was superlative at it and that is what he wanted. They don't make 'em like that anymore. 1 of a kind.

Well, I agree, you don't find the scaraneccas and mckittricks falling off trees, but you have to look. Two possibilities I can spot right now - Alex Mack and Joe Staley. Who knows what the future holds, but Kyle respects Staley a lot. Got to get him on his coaching staff ASAP.

Definitely on that mindset X 100. Joe has played his heart out for a bunch of yrs now. And he has a young family. IF...if, he still has the fire in his belly after a yr or a few months off, who knows? Meanwhile, we can hope.

Or perhaps guys can hire Joe as a private coach to work with them in the offseason. Coaching is a grind but being a private coach, Staley can still have that family time. But the onus would then be on guys like McGlinchey and Skule, etc to seek him out.
