Or perhaps guys can hire Joe as a private coach to work with them in the offseason. Coaching is a grind but being a private coach, Staley can still have that family time. But the onus would then be on guys like McGlinchey and Skule, etc to seek him out.

Cool idea.
Bump
HOF should make room for position coaches.

Agree.

You have Tight End Camp, Edge Rusher Camp, why not Offensive Linemen Camp!

I feel like Bob has been forgotten. The Goat Oline coach. I wish we had him still to this day.
Such an underrated part of the 49er dynasty era.

I think about him from time to time. The guy always got the most out of what he was given to work with, which at times wasn't much.

I was a big Deese guy. He wasn't the biggest and he probably wasn't considered the best in any one way, but the dude had a mean streak. He would scrap his way to getting the job done. Another thing that I always appreciated was anytime someone took a cheap shot at Steve, he was the first one in the guys face ready to defend his QB.

And H was the only first round pick out of all those guys:

Deese - undrafted
Barton - 1st round pick 22
McIntyre - 3rd round pick 73
Paris - 2nd round pick 29
Wallace - 4th round pick 101
Cross - 2nd round pick 42
Sapolu - 11th round pick 289

Plus that's not to mention many other lower round/ undrafted guys. That was kind of the M.O. of those teams. They would take a bunch of overlooked guys and Bob would mold them into a unit.

If ShanaLynch ever finds mckittirick 2.0, gotta make him assistant head coach. I think he'd be that important to kyles scheme success and long-term 49er success.

Thing about that tho is today, any asst coach, especially a great OL coach...is going to go all out for you. But...at the same time he always has his eyes wide open and his ears to the wind for that asst HC / OC/ potential HC slot.

With Bob...it was never like that . He loved coaching OL, loved his guys, adored his HC...and never wanted anything else. Today's guys? Always looking for the next step up. Bob found his niche, knew he was superlative at it and that is what he wanted. They don't make 'em like that anymore. 1 of a kind.

Well, I agree, you don't find the scaraneccas and mckittricks falling off trees, but you have to look. Two possibilities I can spot right now - Alex Mack and Joe Staley. Who knows what the future holds, but Kyle respects Staley a lot. Got to get him on his coaching staff ASAP.

Definitely on that mindset X 100. Joe has played his heart out for a bunch of yrs now. And he has a young family. IF...if, he still has the fire in his belly after a yr or a few months off, who knows? Meanwhile, we can hope.

That's always a question with ex players. Many of them don't want to spend all those hours in a meeting room after they retire. Even if they still have the desire. it doesn't mean they will be good coaches. Some of the greatest players are just too demanding to be a coach. Other sdon't know hiw to teach.

In Staley's case, he seems like a guy that would make a good coach if he wants to go that route.
