It's day 2 of free agency signings - can we be a bit patient here?

My thought is that if they lose the Trent Williams sweepstakes - that cap space goes to *several* good OLine free agents and quite possibly a top of the line edge rusher in this years free agent crop. I don't think Alex Mack has signed with a team yet, and re-signing Trent Williams is saving a first rounder for another position in my book. I think signing Trent is a blockbuster kind of free agency move, and a good money ball move too. I thought you wanted ShanaLynch to build a decent OLine for Jimmy? Signing Trent is a good base foundation signing to build a top grade Offensive Line on.

The long term FA solutions are already gone.

FA, like the draft is for ADDING talent. Not maintaining it. You can resign your own anytime.

You and I must have a different interpretation of "long term solution." Those guys usually don't make it to FA.

No you can't resign your own at any time, not if they are free agents and other teams offer them more money.

The current OLine with Trent is a long way from 2017 and in my opinion pretty darn close to 2019 (with Staley instead of Trent). It's missing a center and a right guard, but it has half a right tackle that hopefully will regain form, and has a promising guard and some young OLinemen that can be plugged in at center and turn into good depth if they continue to improve. The 2017 OLine was mismatched with Kyle's system *and* had some big holes that were filled with journeymen worse that Guys Straight outta Compton. It needs some free agents and some good draft picks to get back to that 2019 OLIne, when it was 100% healthy, but from my eye, it's about two or three OLIne acquisions (draft/free agency) from being better than the 2019 healthy OLine.

I'm still concerned with CB, OL, #3 WR, EDGE, and S positions. Hoping we target some of the following available players

CB: Brian Poole (NB, Jets), Rasul Douglas (CB, Panthers), Desmond King (CB/NB, Titans)
OL: Alex Mack (C, Falcons), David Andrews (C, Patriots), Lane Taylor (G, Packers), Elijah Wilkinson (G/T, Broncos)
WR: Emmanuel Sanders (WR, Saints), Keelan Cole (WR, Jaguars), Chris Conley (WR, Jaguars), Rashard Higgins (WR, Browns)
EDGE: Kerry Hyder (DE, 49ers), Ryan Kerrigan (DE, WFT), Everson Griffin (DE, Lions)
S: Duron Hamlin (S, Lions), Malik Hooker (S, Colts), Kenny Vaccaro (S, Titans), LaMarcus Joyner (S, Raiders), Keanu Neal (S, Falcons)

We'll likely wait until the second wave of free agency as their prices will go down. But if we can get a haul of Poole, Mack, and Cole before the draft, it allows us to go BPA.
I wonder what kind of deal Will Fuller is looking to get. Aiyuk, Deebo, Fuller, Kittle, and Mostert on the field at the same time would be filthy.

You don't LET them get to FA. That's why this pool of OL and ER and WR was so rare.

Unfortunately for the niners, we had a left tackle that was determined to get to free agency to see his worth and once he got there, he forgot all about his love for Shanahan's offense and how good he fit the scheme. Bottom line is, sometimes things work out , sometimes it doesn't. If trent leaves, with the remaining money, we need to make an impact signing at some other position, ie: center , edge or db. better yet, lets get Deshuan Watson and say the hell with it. lol !!!

I was just referring to the number of 28 and younger FA's like Corey Linsley that could have been a 5 year long term solution vs. grabbing someone like a 36 year old Alex Mack and then having to use another resource in the draft and hope that together that ends up being a long term solution and play standards are at a Linsley level.

That was our choice to remove his status so he 'could' test FA. It was in good faith but nobody does that...let a HOF go test the FA market.

They had no choice with Trent. They trade for a top notch tackle that was at the end of his contract and those were his terms. Trent wanted to test free agency. I dont think you can blame the 49ers for that.

As for this years free agency, there are still some good OLine players available (Mack being one) and they are in the lead for trent sweepstakes so far.

I think its to early to be so negative about ShanaLynch's efforts to shore up the OLine.

Didn't they do that with Richburg, and got him in a long term deal but he got injured. They are just now getting out of that disaster.

Now they are going younger with brunskill mckivitz and the others, McGlinchey isn't a total bust yet. He can still turn it around.

I think those long term free agency solutions backfired on them and they are going in a different direction now.

That it true. But in that WR lineup Fuller would likely be the 4th option on most plays as Shanny will want to feature "his guys", and I cannot imagine Fuller accepting that. But I'd love to have him.
I sure miss the days when football wa splayed on the field instead of at the bank. These one year rentals are making the league look like the NBA.
Our fanbase is whining? Wow I didn't see that coming lmao.
Very good offseason so far. Now bring back Trent.
