Trading 3 1st rd picks for Lawrence is one thing, and even Wilson maybe, but the # 3 pick???
Justin Fields will be, at best, a backup in this league. He is Dwayne Haskins part 2- put up huge numbers against the awful team that make up the Big Ten. I hope to God he isn't the pick.
Trey Lance is a myth. Who has actually what he's this guy play a football game against a team anyone has heard of
That only really leaves Mac Jones- who I do like but this is an awful lot to pay for him.
My only hope is that Saleh has given Shanahan some insight into what the Jets will do with #2, and they don't plan on taking Wilson.
If not, this will be the move that Shanahan and Lynch get fired over

Hook me up with the upcoming powerball numbers.

Don't know the powerball numbers, but I do know a one read, college QB when I see one. And I see one in Fields.
I honestly have no idea what to make of Lance because I've never seen him play. I think the only play here is Mac Jones ( assuming Wilson and Lawrence are gone).

Like all of us, I'll be rooting like crazy for whoever we select but this just seems like an awful lot to give up for a team that is in win now mode. Just too many questions marks with Jones, Fields and Lance for this type of investment.

yeah, but IMO he has the biggest bust potential.

Look, if you believe in shanahan, then you have to get him his qb. If he thinks mac jones is a franchise qb, then you make the trade to make sure nobody jumps you. I have no problem with the trade to get mac jones if that's who shanahan thinks is best.

With that being said, I have no faith that shanahan can pick out a qb

Max Jones would be a terrible pick at 12 too (and he'll 100% still be on the board then if we don't draft him). Taking him makes no sense, but like you said nothing that Shanahan has done in his tenure here indicates he knows anything about evaluating QBs.

Brady is the GOAT.

About the QB that today´s NFL is looking for is all about:

-Arm strength
-Mobility
-Can plays out of nothing

Brady is the GOAT but today´s coaches are looking for the new Mahomes

My main issue with that argument is that Shanny doesn't seem to value all that extremely highly and he is at or near the top of the heap.

Also, even if you take Brady out of the list, the last decade of Superbowls is still strongly skewed towards pocket passers.

Edit: Evil beat me to it

Been saying this for awhile on the Webzone. And no its not just a preference of mine either.

Ha!

There's no such thing as dinosaurs, everything in the NFL has a fad, things come and go.

Deep passing and mobility fare the current fad, but as always defenses will catch up. (Unless rules continue to offset) It also remains to be seen if the new breed of mobile quarterback's have a long lifespan in the league.

Agree. Mahomes is taking damage. Murray too.

If mobility was required to play QB in this modern NFL you speak of, then how in the hell did Tom Brady just win ring #7? Did he suddenly become mobile?

There being one exception doesn't mean it's not true. It also helps that Brady is the greatest (pocket) QB of all time.

Brady is a dinosaur and his style of QBing is going extinct. He's lucky that Mahomes basically had no offensive line in the Super Bowl or he would have lost. If Mahomes receivers could have held onto the ball, he might still have lost.

Go back and look at the SBs winners from the past 10 years, all but 3 were won by mobile QB's, once with Mahomes, once with Wilson and once with Aaron Rodgers. The other winners :

Tom Brady x 4
Nick Foles
Peyton Manning
Eli Manning
Joe Flacco
Drew Brees

One doesn't need a mobile QB to win a SB. It's a myth.

And none of those 3 had to be "mobile" to win that Superbowl either.

Look at the last 10 SB winners...all but one had a top 10 D. And all but one had their FQB under center.

We have the defensive talent now we need the FQB. Don't care if he is mobile or not, just get me whoever is a FQB.

Yup. And if he's a more classic pocket passer, make pass protection a priority. First thing Tampa did was trade up for Wirfs. If Tom Brady made OL, there wouldn't be a need to trade up for a top T.

They also called Deshaun Watson a one read QB who will take off when he was being nitpicked in the 2017 draft. Niner fans were too scared to take him after the Colin Kaepernick saga.

Its going to be interesting to see if Shanahan's thinking has changed or not, for sure.

17 of the last 20 Superbowl Champions were pure pocket passers. In fact, all 17 of them were way less athletic than Mac Jons is.

There is a bonus to having a mobile QB though as well.. Like that you don't need to have as strong of an Offensive line to succeed early on. I don't like the Pocket passer VS. mobile Qb Narrative. I Don't really care what type of QB, as long as they are damn good.
watched mac jones highlights, didnt see him take one snap under center

Mac might be able to develop alittle more arm strength when he gets in better shape. Why does he look sloppy?

why are we talking about the last 20 years when the mobile QB fad only really just started 2 years ago?

I like Jones at 12. I'm not a huge fan of 2 first rounds picks for him though

NC knows what's up. Better oline better QB play
