There's no pass rusher worth a top 10 selection in this draft class. No defensive player worth a top 5 selection. You don't give up that much draft real estate to move up for any other position but quarterback.
Right on PHX , so QB it is. It is the "rest of the story " that is interesting. Because no way they do that and keep JG.
One thing I HOPE didn't happen is that Kyle said to both JL and Peters, don't fight me on this, I am going to have one of two QBs. Period. That just brings back bad memories of a RB he HAD to have, Jet, Pettis, CJ, Mullie, and the fascination with Cuzins.
Please tell me this isn't a "Kyle has to have" scenario, because we have gotten burned on every one of the above. I pray this was a vote and it was unanimous. Got no idea if it was or not. It could have gone 2-1, also.
the. Real question is what happens to the other part of this equation... JG and the PATs? It almost has to be that way. Lawrence is a day one starter, no question. Could JL be looking at JG for a PATs EDGE + a 1st in 2022 or 2023 (if BB even has one?).
There's more coming out ...absolutely for sure.
Why not keep Jimmy? Hes cheap and we have a roster that can win this year? If he balls out, we win. If he doesn't or gets hurt. The rookie goes in. I dont see why thats bad?
Don't go bringing logic into this discussion. 😂

I'm guessing they did at least inquire but Jets shut it down immediately so we settled on 3 expecting the Jets to stay at 2.

Disagree. Lynch has made some very good moves, this year especially. Shanny's eye for talent has not been all eagle eyed for sure, he's had some possum eye picks in Pettis, Jet, wanting Cousins.

I'm hoping Kyle evolved his offense a little bit and gets a QB that can run. Even Belichick evolved. Mike Shanahan evolved with Young who was mobile, RG3 had hell of a season.
We will see, but that can open up so much more for the team and can even play certain downs as a rookie while Jimmy is the QB.
Imagine Fields Lance in red zone packages

I'm just going to say I don't like this plan. I don't think any of these QB's this year are game changing players. There will be a couple that are likely decent to above average QB's in this league but we likely won't get either at 3. I also feel that we could have made a run with Jimmy this year and the better o line. No rookie QB in NFL history has ever even made it to the Superbowl. Trey Lance likely has the highest potential, but is seemingly more inaccurate then the others. Not based on stats mind you, but watching him throw he looks like Josh Allen coming out. Allen looked awful until he dedicated himself to fixing the issue last season, won't work for everyone. Anyhow whoever we pick we better be great, because we gave up several years worth of starters for him. Also if Jimmy goes to NE, stops getting hurt and keeps winning Kyle is going to look kinda stupid.

If ATL loves Fields, wants him bad enough, and feels like they have to leapfrog SF, the Jets may very well move back to 4 for a haul.
Then we get Wilson.
What is the Shanahan/Fields connection?

The only way this trade makes sense to me is if the 49ers have it on good authority that the Jets are not going to select Zach Wilson #2. Trading two future 1sts and a 3rd to move up for either Lance or Fields or Jones is a gargantuan overpay. Especially if the team intends to pay Jimmy in 2021. If the team drafts a QB and offloads Jimmy and uses that savings to make other acquisitions, extend Warner, etc. you can factor that into the calculus and maybe then it looks a little better.
We've seen this dance before from Lynch and Shanahan. I think overall they have done a decent job but they definitely have a tendency to overpay for players they like. If you look at the history of QB's drafted in the Top 5 range, except for the occasional super-duper star there's no such thing as a lock. This is extraordinarily risky. Needlessly risky, I would say. Of course, it could work out great, but I'd argue that if it does it would be due to good fortune as much as it would be due to skillful maneuvering.

Kyle will absolutely evolve his scheme, I forget the quote but right after the bills game he said something along the lines of dual threat QB's being the future of the game

Can you guarantee Lawrence and Wilson will be 1st ballot Hof QB's?

That would be a blessing if ATL was in love with Fields and felt compelled to deal with the Jets to get him. Best case scenario is if Fields absolutely knocks it out of the park in his pro day and gets some buzz going around his name. Otherwise I think the Niners are going to be boxed in and holding the bag for laying out all of that draft capital for flawed candidates. If no one bites, I think I'd go with either Fields or Jones. I'm not buying on all of the Lance hype. I watched his pro day and he missed unguarded receivers on goal line fade routes and his deep balls can be wildly off target. NFL defenses will be more than content to take away his running lanes and let him try to beat you with an inaccurate arm. If you're going athletic, Fields seems a stronger prospect. If you want incremental improvement over Garoppolo at a cheaper price with fewer mistakes, go Jones.

Any one knows of they're allowed to talk to them? No collusion rules in the draft ?

Houston wanted three 1st, two 2nds, a def starter and a starting QB for Watson (pre allegations). The Miami trade has been in the works for about a month they said, about the same as the Watson trade situation came out. The 49ers decided Watson was too costly ( I agree)
No one was getting Watson for 3 1's (a month ago) as you stated above.

Reading all this, I feel like I got in the back seat of the family station wagon this morning for a trip to Disneyland, but my parents got in an argument so they cut the trip short and pulled into Pea Soup Andersens.
