There will be a couple that are likely decent to above average QB's in this league but we likely won't get either at 3. I also feel that we could have made a run with Jimmy this year and the better o line. No rookie QB in NFL history has ever even made it to the Superbowl. Trey Lance likely has the highest potential, but is seemingly more inaccurate then the others. Not based on stats mind you, but watching him throw he looks like Josh Allen coming out. Allen looked awful until he dedicated himself to fixing the issue last season, won't work for everyone. Anyhow whoever we pick we better be great, because we gave up several years worth of starters for him. Also if Jimmy goes to NE, stops getting hurt and keeps winning Kyle is going to look kinda stupid.

Dan Marino made the Superbowl in his rookie year actually.

That would be a blessing if ATL was in love with Fields and felt compelled to deal with the Jets to get him. Best case scenario is if Fields absolutely knocks it out of the park in his pro day and gets some buzz going around his name. Otherwise I think the Niners are going to be boxed in and holding the bag for laying out all of that draft capital for flawed candidates. If no one bites, I think I'd go with either Fields or Jones. I'm not buying on all of the Lance hype. I watched his pro day and he missed unguarded receivers on goal line fade routes and his deep balls can be wildly off target. NFL defenses will be more than content to take away his running lanes and let him try to beat you with an inaccurate arm. If you're going athletic, Fields seems a stronger prospect. If you want incremental improvement over Garoppolo at a cheaper price with fewer mistakes, go Jones.

Mac Jones isn't even a better prospect than Tua was. I highly doubt we gave away two 1sts and a 3rd for Mac Jones.

No, it was his 2nd year.

Marino was drafted in 83, the Super Bowl against San Francisco was the next season.
absolutely love what 49ers did! John Lynch got some big balls. this is the draft to take a QB.
Btw it takes great coaching/franchise building to make great QBs, imagine if we took Tom Brady instead of Tim Rattay (Both 6/7 round picks), guarantee Tom would have looked like s**t and been out of the league if he had to play on that 49ers team coached by Dennis Ericson? Instead he got a couple years to learn behind Drew Bledsoe on a playoff caliber team.
Shanahan understands the need for a dual threat QB and will take Wilson or Lance....I think Jets will roll with Darnold again because they are a garbage franchise.

Great 49ers gift ideas
We are not getting Mac Jones...he'll be worse than Jimmy G to start the year with ceiling only slightly above.

The game has changed esp rules regarding sliding QBs getting an automatic 15 year penalty if even touch them as they are sliding (or fake sliding). If wilson isn't there, 100% Lynch/Shanahan is taking Fields/Lance. their running ability alone is more valuable than any slight edge Mac Jones may have initially with accuracy. Btw Jalen Hurts wasn't a highly regarded prospect but absolutely lit up teams with running game and even as a passer and was on the incompetent Eagles with one of the worst olines in football.

Chris Simms probably thought he was a pretty good prospect himself.

Trading two future 1sts and a 3rd to move up for either Lance or Fields or Jones is a gargantuan overpay. Especially if the team intends to pay Jimmy in 2021. If the team drafts a QB and offloads Jimmy and uses that savings to make other acquisitions, extend Warner, etc. you can factor that into the calculus and maybe then it looks a little better.

We've seen this dance before from Lynch and Shanahan. I think overall they have done a decent job but they definitely have a tendency to overpay for players they like. If you look at the history of QB's drafted in the Top 5 range, except for the occasional super-duper star there's no such thing as a lock. This is extraordinarily risky. Needlessly risky, I would say. Of course, it could work out great, but I'd argue that if it does it would be due to good fortune as much as it would be due to skillful maneuvering.

Well, if they dump Jimmy and go with the rookie QB, then its a rebuild year. I don't see us contesting for the SB with a rookie QB. We will be lucky to make it to the play offs.

The slide rule is basically 15 free yards now. That's pretty much Kyler Murry's best play. Wait until somebody commits, slide, let them graze you, get 15 yards.
Wow, the 49ers are guaranteed to get either Fields or Wilson. I think this was a great move and one they had to make.

The 49ers have already shorn up the O-line, Kept the D mostly intact but QB was the glaring weakness, they knew it. The 49ers would have had the 4th best QB in the division, now we have a chance to grab the QB who could end up being the best. I like Wilson but will be super happy with Fields too.

An opinion on Mac Jones from a couple of months back.
