They're going to take Lance, dude has the biggest boom potential and after seeing Mahomes beat them in the SB he reminds them of him. Kyle is very confident in his coaching and the talent around him that Lance will not be a bust. I'm perfectly fine with Lance and hoping it's him. Jets aren't passing on Wilson

He also has the biggest bust potential. He by far played on the most stacked team of any top QB out there. NDSU has won like 9 of the past 11 FCS championships. Most of their games are played against absolute cupcakes where their talent level just flat out overwhelms the other teams. He's got a ton of potential but there's also a lot of risk considering his relative inexperience as a passer. Just one year as a starter and in an offense where he had a low volume of passes too.

That would be the ultimate #YOLO move by Shanahan and Lynch. If it worked out, they'd look like geniuses. If it flopped, they'd get fired.

If you trade that much it's not to be scared and think bust. They go off his talent, his personality and work ethic. Can't help who you play, many guys end up playing in the SEC and end up sucking. Like I said Kyle is very confident in his coaching and the talent surrounding the young qb. Mahomes played against cupcake defenses and had big bust potential too

Good point.

Wilson is at least the equal of Herbert.

I think Lance is just as good as herbert.

i watched every Oregon game.

honestly didnt think Herbert would be that good in the pro's.

surprised me.

What games are you talking about?

Watch when Coastal Carolina had him clueless this past season. Beating the brake off BYU..... I said Coastal Carolina!!!. I'll send my phone number to you so we can discuss!!!!!!!!!

They traveled across country, scheduling them only days before. Wilson didn't play terrible but BYU was punched right in the mouth.

SO when we go on a two week road trip Its the excuses that matter????? If you may say thats only one game he looked awful. Now go back and look at the games when he was successful. He's only good with a 5 yard cushion which he wont get in the NFL. Go watch!!

49ers definitely going QB. Fields or Wilson IMO.

Not really, that tells me the Jets weren't willing to trade down from #2 because if the 9ers were willing to trade up to #3 they were willing to trade up to #2 to secure their guy. The Jets want a QB at #2 and is most likely going to be Zach Wilson even if the 9ers were to prefer Wilson. My guess is the 9ers will take Trey Lance. Fields is also a possibility, but my guess is Shanny and Lynch prefer Trey Lance.

Highly doubtful it's Lance. There are way too many question marks about him to be a #3 overall pick. Outside of his athleticism and arm strength he hasnt demonstrated enough consistency to justify being that high. He's also not as accurate as Jones or Fields. Dont let the stat line from his freshman year fool ya, he throws a great deep ball but his short to intermediate game needs work to be good at the NFL level where openings are measured in feet not yards.

Like I said they are feeling the heat and getting desperate.....

Soon me lads.....soon.

Mac Jones says hi.

NDSU for their level of competition makes Bama look like a so-so program. They're like Bama+Clemson. They simply outclass their competition on talent game after game, year after year.

We'll know soon enough. If they're going to deal Garoppolo then they'll deal him before the draft.

100% Phoenix - totally agree here - IF the decide on this but it's unlikely.

Zero chance we trade Jimmy this year. You don't sign Mack as your center, get the band back together on defense if you're looking to start a rookie QB.
Called all of this earlier with the scenarios

I wouldn't call trading his a zero chance.. JG gone, frees up 25 mill

Sure letting Jimmy go frees up cash but it screws the season. Read something super interesting in the Athletic from Barrows ....

Finally, Trent Williams snuck this into the end of his Tuesday session with reporters. Asked about offseason plans, Williams said it's looking as if the NFL will have a second straight offseason in which the only interaction with coaches is via Zoom.

This is looming as a point of contention between owners and players this spring with the teams pushing for the normal OTAs and minicamp schedule and players advocating for a second straight virtual spring.

Would the latter hurt the 49ers? Shanahan would say, yes. Before the 2020 season ended, he noted how important it was for Garoppolo to go through a full offseason, something he's done just once since arriving in 2017. He wasn't a full participant in 2019 because he was coming off an ACL tear. Last year's offseason was wiped out by the pandemic.

"I know it's frustrating for him," Shanahan said of a 2020 season in which Garoppolo was fully healthy for just one game. "But that's why he's got to go into this offseason and do everything he can in this offseason to get ready for Week 1 next year and hopefully we'll get an offseason so we can make sure we give him OTAs and everything like that because that's what he didn't get his ACL year."

A virtual spring season also could be another reason the 49ers might not draft a quarterback. Lynch said the 49ers need a better fallback in case Garoppolo gets hurt again. Could the 49ers rely on a rookie who wouldn't hit the practice field until late July?
https://theathletic.com/2475258/2021/03/25/barrows-the-remaining-blank-on-the-49ers-roster-and-other-free-agency-and-draft-thoughts/

I can't see us going into a win-now approach with a rook at QB with a likely virtual off-season again. I know we'll grab a QB, but it also means given what's happening off-season with OTAs, etc. in addition to how KS views reps, it would mean Jimmy would be the QB with the most reps and the sole reason they brought in Flacco. They still may trade for a vet back-up.
It's a good move to have jimmy stay.. due to many things. but JG value is more now than later

On covid i'm not worried, California would nearly be vaxed by the time OTAs,camp and preseason starts

Go all in for a SB this year with the current team and Jimmy while getting the new QB ready then what? Complete rebuild as they wont be able to afford to keep next years free agents.

I don't get it.

Salary cap will be up next year. Must admit, though, that I hope they are planning on starting Garoppolo this year.

I think Jimmy will definitely start. But the chances of him staying healthy is low. So it will be an excuse to throw a rookie into the fire. It will be a interesting year for sure.
