Seems to me they looked at the roster and concluded - after not landing a deal with a vet backup like Dalton or Flacco - that they needed to draft a young QB this year or next year. So if they really love someone this year, why wait until next year?

I don't see Shanahan rolling with a rookie QB with this roster Week 1. But whoever they draft will be sitting behind Jimmy G on a very strong roster. Either Jimmy G balls out and they get draft capital back for the young QB in a few years, or the young QB eventually becomes the starter.

I can't imagine they would they would be happy with either way. Shanahan strikes me as the "I WANT HIM" type of guy.

I am hoping it is not Lance. I think he is too much of a boom or bust prospect. Give me the safer pick of Wilson or Fields. No matter what those two QBs will at least be a guaranteed upgrade over Jimmy.

What a move. Trading this early means they must believe they can get who they love. They like to lock on to players. It has to be for Wilson.
They must see that he will be there. He's someone they've been in on all year. He fits what Shanny wants. He wants to be a 49er. Perfect.
Jimmy G is gone soon. People want him and we can clear the space. I hope we go after some more FA's now like Kerrigan and Nelson.
If we needs someone to start this year for a couple games and teach a rook, bring back Mullins. Better to roll with Wilson at half speed as long as the OL is fixed and he has weapons,

If Saleh plays games and wants us to trade up to number 2, give him Armstead. It would have to be by April 1st before his next bonus kicks in,
