Thing is, 49ers didn't discuss a trade with the New York Jets.

Which means

1) They know they Jets are taking Wilson OR
2) They know the Jets are not taking Wilson

By deduction they know who Jets are taking and they know who they are taking.

There's no way anyone knows what the Jets are doing with the #2 this far out. The Jets probably don't know. Anyone who falls in love with a QB -- and someone falls in love every year, justifiably or not -- may offer the Jets a blockbuster trade for their spot. With those picks the Jets could bolster multiple positions and suddenly a "bust" QB, like the #3 selection a few years ago, Sam Darnold, starts to not look so much like a bust when he has a good defense, a running game, and some protection. We just don't know. Fun to speculate, but your binary outcome scenario is debatable.

It's nuts that we traded the farm and even the devout fans have no idea who it is... Lance, Fields, or Jones. I guess the strategy to the trade (into the top 5) was that one of these guys would fall to #5 and the relative difference in cost between those picks was minimal, and this was the trade they could pull off.

Not only is mortgaging your future for a FQB already a gamble, but if they were to take Jones with Lance and Fields on the board, that's also a huge gamble too.

I don't get it..if they tried to trade for picks 3,4 and 5, why did they not try to trade up for 2??
