Right. He's probably here until the end of the year. The rookie takes over in 2022, right when the 49ers need his money to starting looking at extending Bosa.

Everyone who reads this board knows I'm not a Jimmy fan, but the smart move is to keep him on the team through 2021. We don't need the cap room this year and it would give the rook time to learn the system and build confidence. Who knows, if the kid is good enough make he takes over mid/late season. This is best case scenario.

The smart move would be to trade Jimmy and a second to New England for the 15 pick. Then trade back. Trade Mcglinchy grab his replacement in the first round. Ship a fifth for Minshew. Then they would have cap space to fill some spots this year and draft capital to fill some of the leftover holes and the team would be in great shape for the future.

That would be incredible, and our rookie QB needs the stability of a vet.

2 firsts but whose counting?

No. It is 3 first even if you're swapping firsts it still counts as a first

Basic math. If you give up 3 and gain 1 the net is 2.

why do you have to explain this? god damn our education system sucks

This is the second time I've read this name today. Was that you on the other post? He was taken in the second round! What does Deshone Kizer have to do with anything going on today or in 2021?

You don't give up three first-rounders to sit a player on the bench an entire season. Yes, You might not want to rush him out in week 1, but there is no way you don't start them at all this season.

LOL. KC, Baltimore, Green Bay x2, 49ers, etc.

It's a luxury but it's the right way to get the best out of your current starter, keep his trade value up and allow your rookie time to acclimate to a very complicated NFL system.

Edit thought Mahomes started year 1 I guess he did start the next year. Lamar was a late 1st round pick, not a team that gave up 3 first-rounders. It has been a long time since Rodgers and again he was a late-round pick. It is a different time now. It is better to just give the rookie the NFL experience. We could start Jimmy but no way he finishes the season as the starter.

I hear you but it really depends on how well Jimmy is playing, the complexity of the offense, how the season is going, how the rookie is picking up the system, etc.
Kyle Shanahan is not stupid to settle for what's available at 3, when it comes to QB. This is a spot that was traded for. You honestly think they would trade for someone not NFL ready like Lance? This is a guy you sit for a couple of years.

LMAO. I was obviously kidding.

I'm just so pumped!

I wonder what the camps will be this time? Fields vs Wilson? Lance vs Jones? Oh, oh, it might be a fatal fourway for the Title!

they always compare the guy they dont like to his worst possible comp
AND NC they still have ALL their picks this year...they can grab a RG in the top 100. They got money to burn the next 5 yrs too

You trade to whatever spot you can if you don't want to wait for #12. Look at the draft list:

1. Jacksonville Jaguars *
2. New York Jets *
3. Miami Dolphins via Houston Texans
4. Atlanta Falcons *
5. Cincinnati Bengals
6. Philadelphia Eagles *
7. Detroit Lions
8. Carolina Panthers *
9. Denver Broncos *
10. Dallas Cowboys
11. New York Giants

All those 6 * teams will be picking a QB if they think the value is there. Every one of them would jump at the chance to replace their current QB with Mac Jones. With four consensus quality QBs available, you get nothing at #12. So, you look at trading up. Cincy already said "no." Atlanta is going to draft Ryan's replacement. Philly was out of the mix early. Carolina and Denver are going QB if they can. The only option was #3. None of the intermediate choices were available.

I don't think the Jet's draft QB at #2, but I'm afraid they could trade that pick to : Falcons, Panthers, or Broncos and absolutely rake them for picks and steals our thunder.

Look, I am sure we tried with the Jets and they turned us down, nothing much we could do about it. At this point, I think we can all assume Zach Wilson is gone by #2 even if you think the Jets will trade with someone else, personally I think the Jets will take Wilson. And the 9ers will take Trey Lance at #3 or at worse Justin Fields. That's OK, is not the end of the world.

Too smart
Ima gonna have to wait a month for them to try to land Trey Lance at #3 now

He's right.

3 firsts plus a 3rd for a rookie qb. Why is that not right? Let's say miami drafted trey lance at #3. The 49ers give up #12 2021, 2022 1st and 2023 1st and 2021 for trey lance. That's three firsts and a third for trey lance. Why is that hard to understand.
