Guys, do you honestly believe we just re-signed all these vets to win now, and were just going to dump Jimmy and draft a rookie? Common sense. Jimmy is the QB this year.

Unless some team makes an overpay for Jimmy, I think this is the way to go. Let the rookie sit one year.

Agree, that would be what I'd do. Throwing the rookie in there would wreck his confidence if no immediate success. This looks like a Pat Mahomes/Aaron Rogers situation. Vet plays this year and gone the next. and rookie takes over next year.

And if JG wins the SB this year.....?

Keep Jimmy for another year, as long as rookie QB is still on his first contract? That would be great QB depth at a critical position on the football team.

Right. He's probably here until the end of the year. The rookie takes over in 2022, right when the 49ers need his money to starting looking at extending Bosa.

Everyone who reads this board knows I'm not a Jimmy fan, but the smart move is to keep him on the team through 2021. We don't need the cap room this year and it would give the rook time to learn the system and build confidence. Who knows, if the kid is good enough make he takes over mid/late season. This is best case scenario.

The smart move would be to trade Jimmy and a second to New England for the 15 pick. Then trade back. Trade Mcglinchy grab his replacement in the first round. Ship a fifth for Minshew. Then they would have cap space to fill some spots this year and draft capital to fill some of the leftover holes and the team would be in great shape for the future.

That would be incredible, and our rookie QB needs the stability of a vet.

That would be incredible because it's so unrealistic. Nobody is giving up a 1st for Jimmy. If they would, he should of been traded yesterday...
Mind Blowing Move, and there may be more to come. If they use the pick I'm hoping Zach is there, do they have an inside on the Saleh decision? I'm afraid of the legacy of Ohio State QB's and their failure in the pros. Talking heads are saying Mack Jones is a possibility, seems kind of high ? Electric Move by the Niners.

Too smart

i guess they are admitting we have no shot at the playoffs then

NC gonna burn Levi's down if we dont draft an IOL at #3 lol

LOL. It's OK. We're drafting a mobile QB. I hear they transform poor OL's!

If Garoppolo balls out and they keep him one more year, the further along Mac Jones will be when it's his time.

I don't get it..if they tried to trade for picks 3,4 and 5, why did they not try to trade up for 2??

Because NY is locked on Wilson at #2.

larry kreuger thinks they are locked in at lance at #2 lol

Maybe. The Jets are in the similar spot with Darnold as we are with Garoppolo. Given their expectations the Jets can let their new potential franchise QB sit on the bench for a year while Darnold tries to improve his stock around the league.
Honestly I don't see why we should keep jimmy. I don't see us winning any more games with Mac Jones (for example), than with Jimmy. Cut/trade him and extend Warner now, cause it will cost a lot more if we wait.

Look, I am sure we tried with the Jets and they turned us down, nothing much we could do about it. At this point, I think we can all assume Zach Wilson is gone by #2 even if you think the Jets will trade with someone else, personally I think the Jets will take Wilson. And the 9ers will take Trey Lance at #3 or at worse Justin Fields. That's OK, is not the end of the world.

Rascal we're getting our QB!! only took over 20 yrs

2 firsts but whose counting?

No. It is 3 first even if you're swapping firsts it still counts as a first

Basic math. If you give up 3 and gain 1 the net is 2.

why do you have to explain this? god damn our education system sucks

Lmao. It's ok. Some people think differently

If I was Jimmy G, id be demanding a trade. So I don't think it's feasible to expect Jimmy G to hand it the same way as Alex Smith did in KC.

If JG forces the issue, 49ers should trade him. Sign Alex Smith as a vet backup instead.
