Kyle probably appreciates how much more difficult it is to defend scrambling/mobile QBs looking to throw playing Wilson and Murray twice a year. Not to mention losing to Mahomes in the super bowl and watching him go to another. We were also in the Watson trade rumors' until his problems blew up. So maybe he's seen the light. And if anything should get them to re-evaluate their QB scouting, it's Mahomes and Watson. Cause you KNOW they're kicking themselves for not drafting one of them.

I love this post, the truth is there's probably only 3 or 4 people on the planet who know what the plan is at 3.

This is a very realistic summary of what the thinking might be.

I'm just not sure that Kyle wants a guy that'll improvise and live outside of his playcalls.

Maybe, I just know I'm tired of our QBs panicking and looking to turtle as soon as their first read is gone and they feel the slightest amount of pressure.

Who out of Wilson, Fields, Jones or Lance plays under center the most? Isn't that something Shanny values from his QB? Seems all of these QBs play primarily out of the shotgun? or has his philosophy really evolved?

You'll never end up drafting a QB if you exclude players that operate out of shotgun in college

Maybe Kyle has reassessed but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't or couldn't potentially have Jones ranked as QB3 in this class. If we take Mac Jones, that does not necessarily mean Kyle still evaluates QB the same way.

Just because you value certain traits now that you might not have previously valued as much does not mean it will have an effect on how you grade these prospects in this particular class.

I won't be mad if we take Fields but he's last on my list. OSU qb's just have it easy. You really have to be sure his work ethic is better than everyone else at that school. But I'm not ruling him out or saying it's anything against him.

You could say the same about Alabama QBs. Maybe even Clemson QBs since they always are loaded at RB, WR and O line. So now we've eliminated 3 of the top 5 QBs. The other 2 played against lower level competition. Now who do we take.

Rank these 4 in order of athleticism.

It's then easier to scrape off the guy that doesn't belong.

Sure,...Mac Jones could be another Tom Brady that comes along every 100 years or so,...but I'd take my chances with the more athletic guys.

Shockingly,...lol,....half of you see things differently, I guess.

Thank you for stating the obvious. Niners fans have been waiting since the late 90's for the organization to make this bold of a move for a franchise QB. Now people are worrying that they might blow the pick. Lynch and Shanahan have put their own futures on the line by making this move. Just like you, in them we trust. I'll be happy with whomever they pick, as long as it is a QB.

It's pretty safe to assume that Trevor Lawrence goes 1, and likely either Fields or Wilson goes 2, but just in case either falls, I'll put them as options.

I am not convinced the 49ers will use the third pick in the draft to select a QB. I do know this is the general line of thinking, but I am not convinced. Yet.

I have no idea who they will select. I'm just not sold on QB.
It's gotta be Wilson or Lance. I like Jones but don't think we would give up 2 future firsts for him.

Ask yourself how many qb's Saban has produced. So yeah you definitely can say it about them too. Throwing to Julio and Cooper with Derrick Henry at back is quite the advantage especially when you really only play 3 even close to competitive games a year.

And a school like Wyoming arguably has a better track record of producing qb's than OSU so maybe we shouldn't dismiss the lower level competition. Ultimately someone can come fRom anywhere I'm just saying with schools like OSU/ Bama you need to do more lifting looking into them because it is easier to succeed.

On the one hand I think Kyle and John got this, but on the other hand I remember that they also believed CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens were NFL QBs.
I'll be okay with any of these guys.

I think it's Fields or Wilson. If Wilson is there we take him if not then Fields. I do really think Kyle wants some running ability with his QB now. That said I wouldn't be surprised if they take Mac bc he's moved up for head scratchers before.
Fine with whoever Shanny likes but want Lance the least. Huge unknown and doesnt have much tape showcasing the qualities Shanny always raves about. Would rather not have leveraged the future on the biggest question mark of the draft who also needs the most time to develop based on public perception.

To your point, he did indicate he was open to adjusting his QB preference.
