Should the 49ers trade JG this year?

It takes a veteran QB a whole year to learn Shanny's system. No way in hell a rookie QB with a playbook for 4 months will be effective. This team is built to win now. Roll with Jimmy, give the rookie spot duty and start him next season.

i keep jimmy. no need to give a potential great roster to a rookie. it should push jimmy to play well which increases what we can get for him. let the kid learn. we pushed alex to much in his first year. should have signed garcia. just hope this works out for us like it did. in green bay and kc. on a side note. i think that jones guy is like jimmy which would make zero sense to get him aka a jimmy clone. i pick the lance kid unless wilson falls to us. ohio state guys never pan out or rarely do in the nfl

Yeah, that's the best way to roll.

I think this is massively overstated.

It might take time to consume everything, but any decent QB can come in and be effective from the get go.

There's merit in keeping Jimmy and developing the rookie, but out of all the reasons to do that, the playbook would be closer to the bottom of the list.
Keep Jimmy and let the rookie learn. Hopefully it will drive up Jimmy's value and we can get back a first next year.

Of course it's easy to say all that. Jimmy might not want to groom another QB and/or might not want to play for a team he has no future with especially if he knows their is a team out there that wants him now.

he has a no trade clause so he has some leverage here. I personally hope he leads us to a super bowl victory next year.
jimmy for gilmore ? i havent kept up with gilmore but what do you guys think
Nope. Showcase JG this year and hopefully increase his value while allowing a rookie to to be eased into the system.

I think its kinda obvious to keep Jimmy. Its just clearly the best option.

Jimmy is basically in a contract year and has to play well. The team is set up to win now. If he gets hurt we have a nice shiny rookie to play. Its a win win.

I think Shanahan and Lynch realize a lot of Mahomes success is due to him playing for a team that was already pretty well built around him. We have the same thing but also have a QB that can prove he can at least get to a SB. We don't need the cap room so it makes no sense to trade him.
I think you got to. You keep him and you run the risk of a Wenz- Foles/ Kap- Alex situation. Where the locker room gets behind the other guy. The fans ponder did we make a mistake. Trade Jimmy and bring in Alex if the QB isn't ready.

Drafting a QB is a long term move. You got to look past this season. If Jimmy wins here you just traded 3 1sts for a situation that was in your head.

if jimmy gets hurt at some point.. the rookie gives us a better back up than what we have had around here as of late
You got to think of it as a 2nd rounder + 25 mil in the bank to sign future players. For that, I think they got to trade Jimmy. The only way I don't see them trading Jimmy for that is if they Draft Lance. It seems to be the majority opinion that he needs a year to sit. I don't think we are taking lance though. Why draft a kid at #3 who is not ready to play in the NFL. Wilson, FIelds, Jones can start week 1 and more than likely play better than Jimmy IMO.

Who isn't going to be versed enough in this offense to lead us anywhere. If we trade Garoppolo we're essentially throwing this season out the window. We have too many veterans ready to win now in 2021 to do that. We will keep Jimmy and see what he can do with one more shot, and have the insurance plan and future waiting in the wings learning the system.

As much as I would like to move on from JG, this is probably the way it'll go down and likely the best scenario.

The problem will be that JG will know he's a lame duck and we have to hope they brings the best out of him.

If the Pats or another team offer us their 2nd round pick that would be tempting but KS would have to truly believe the rookie can start which he won't be able to do pre draft.

Lance may need a year or even two since he is the youngest but he also played in a system that was the most like Kyle's system. Most people thought Herbert would need a year and he did well when forced into action early. Until whoever they pick actually starts to workout and play in Kyle's system, we won't know how long it will take.

Don't forget about Jimmy's 5 games in 2017 when he played some of his best games despite not knowing the system. Kyle simplified it and let him play.
