Should the 49ers trade JG this year?

Literally ZERO DOWNSIDE to keeping Garoppolo.
Oh no, Jimmy did well in 2021. Whatever will we do. If only he played in a league that is ravenous for even mediocre QB play.
I would keep him, but there is downside, he could easily lose value:
* He could get injured again and lose trade value (fairly likely, esp. with our OL)
* He could play poorly and lose trade value
* He could be a poor mentor to the young QB
its worth the risk for sure i dont think he would be a poor mentory also we have a coaching staff
i also dont think he will play poorly when healthy he has been solid to good in our system

You may be correct, but it seems that teams have figured out that JG can't throw to the deep sidelines very well, he is mostly an over-the-middle QB and if they flood the middle and force him to throw to the deep sidelines he's not as effective??? If that's true he may lose value. I don't know, but Shanahan doesn't seem to trust him.

If we draft Fields #3, then I am down for trading Jimmy for a 2nd this year, OR a 1st next year. Fields can play day 1, at the core, we're a running team, so learning the passing plays will be the main learning curve. Shanahan can ease him into it during the season, and the best way to learn, is going through the motions in game action. Fields should be fine, and getting out of Jimmys contract will pay dividends going forward.
I would be down for trading a 5th for Minshew, so we have a solid back up who can win if thrust into action. Rosen would be QB3 for now, but battle Minshew for QB2.

Right on, good plan. What about if the draft Lance or Wilson?

If it's Lance then keep him. Anyone else I'd be willing to go with from week 1.

i dont think a single rookie QB has ever won a SB.
im willing to start JG regardless of who we draft (unless by some miracle we get Wilson)

And I don't believe Jimmy wins one either so..
If I don't think we win a SB with a rookie
And I don't think we win a SB with Jimmy
It's just a matter of whether the reps and experience are better served on a rookie or Jimmy.

Because 2019 is irrelevant in 2021

If we draft Jones then trade him, otherwise keep him.

When did Jimmy Get figured out? He had a season long injury happen to him week 2....same place we lost what felt like a 1/4 of the roster for the season.

He doesn't have a I must start clause though. The second we tell him you'll be benched he's going to say ok I'll. go here and here.

- NFL Pick 'em
It depends on the offer. If Pats want to send us their #15, we would be really dumb to not do it. But if we are only talking about a 2nd round pick and maybe a 5th, then just let Jimmy play out this year.
Chances are, whatever the Pats are offering now will still be on the table next year. Cam is not good anymore, and Pats are still good enough team that they have a decent record, so they won't have a top 5 pick. Unless Jimmy tears an ACL again, or major injury, chances are the Pats will still want him even next year.

You don't trade up to #3 to not start the QB you draft ASAP. Trade Jimmy now
