Should the 49ers trade JG this year?

You don't trade up to #3 to not start the QB you draft ASAP. Trade Jimmy now

This. We could get how much cap space if we traded him now? Lock up Warner for 6 years. I don't see any way Jimmy is on the 49ers this season.

What do the need the cap space for ? This year is already set.

Keep him.

Rookie QBs don't win.

Give it one last crack with Jimmy G and this roster they've brought back whilst letting the rookie sit.

Depending on how the season is going keep Jimmy for the playoff run or trade him and play the rookie late in the year.
Rushing a rookie QB is a risky gamble.

You don't have to use it all for this year. With backloaded contracts and Warner, Bosa amongst others just around the corner it would give us an additional layer of flexibility.

Not a driving factor to trade him imo. Maybe it's as simple as letting the rookie sit as Jimmy plays or gets hurt.

Would rather give the rookie reps. Money saved is just a bonus.

So you're saying this year you'd rather have a rookie starting Day 1 rather than Garoppolo? A rookie that would have to learn Shanahan's scheme in another somewhat abbreviated, covid-affected offseason? With the talent this team has on both sides of the ball to win this year?

I would be shocked (and disappointed) if Shanahan went this route.
Getting rid of Jimmy is dangerous this yr. Extremely unlikely a rookie would help us compete for a sb in a covid offseason trying to learn z complicated offense

Teams that are going nowhere next year can do this like the Jaguars or the Jets. That's why they're drafting that high.

Yes, SF traded up, but that was to secure their FUTURE QB. Jimmy is the present and it could last into 2022 if he plays really well.

I don't expect Shanny to do that, but yeah that would be my preference.

You believe we can win with Jimmy, I don't.
If they draft Trey Lance, They can't trade Jimmy. If the Jets shock the world and not take Wilson and the Niners get him, Then they can trade Jimmy.

it wont last till 2022 although i think he should for sure start this year

next year they will trade/cut Jimmy and save money for FA and resigning. I do agree it makes most sense for Jimmy to start this year no matter who we draft

Literally ZERO DOWNSIDE to keeping Garoppolo.

Oh no, Jimmy did well in 2021. Whatever will we do. If only he played in a league that is ravenous for even mediocre QB play.

I'm for keeping Jimmy for a year or until the trade deadline, but of course there is downside. He gets injured fairly often lol, and it's not like he's Rodgers when healthy either.

It depends what the pick is. Nobody is going to give you a 1st rounder. Come on. Be realistic. For a 2nd rounder I would.
