In hindsight, was Vernon Davis worth the 6th Overall in 2006?

Vernon was definitely a strange guy, to say the least. A lot of odd moments for him on and off the field.

But after the Catch III when he ran over to Harbaugh in tears and hugged him... that was touching and one of my favorite moments in sports.

Yes. Rodgers and Brady would've loved him on their teams and I bet he would've had a better career with either one...

HOF worthy.

A better title for this misled thread is, "TE: worth a top 6 pick?"

That's the only logic to the premise of this thread.

That was some serious PTSD of Cam Chancellor coming at him....

I was honestly really uncomfortable with how long he did it for. I almost turned off the video.

Agreed. More often than not, I'd say no. TE is one of the positions where you can get good, great, and elite talent all over the draft. Similar to guard and RB. Davis was worth it for that year, but more often than not, they aren't. Going to be interesting to see how Pitts looks. Fortunately for him, I don't see any bad spots in the top-10.

I remember watching that live at some electronics store. IT was on like 50 TVs. I was like wtf was that? I thought someone called him something derogatory on live TV. When I realized he was trying to act I was like oh no
If Vernon would've had George Kittle's mentality and style of play, he would've been the most dominant TE ever. By a wide, wide margin.
Vern and Gore were the only reason to watch the niners in those years so he was worth it. You take those guys away and they were unwatchable. Gore doesn't have the gaping holes he was running thru without Vern killing Linebackers and DEs for him

How can anyone forget the Cyclops, Derek Smith, Brian Jennings, and Andy Lee lol
yes, he was worth it.
Not 6. Great blocker, hands of stone. There was always anxiety when he was the target. Never got over it. Good player and would excel in shannys oz scheme.

The thing is, nobody else we could have taken at 6 (that was projected to go that high) would have done any better for us
