In hindsight, was Vernon Davis worth the 6th Overall in 2006?

You look back at that draft and it's a lot of pretty good players. Not elite, not busts just a fine pick and that's where Vernon would fall.

If you pass on an elite player that hurts, if you draft a bust that hurts. Passing on Mahomes for Soloman Thomas is regretful the Vernon pick may not have of been the best choice Ngata probably would of been a better call but it was a solid choice. Not a pick to regret.

Just stop with the should have drafted Mahomes BS.

He had a second rd grade with plenty of analysts questioning the KC move. Hardly a slam dunk pick.

The 2006 draft was meh and so was Davis. A TE 6th overall better be good. His athleticism didnt seem to help him become elite. His hands were made of stone and got embarrassed by Singletary. Nice catch against NO!

You missed his point

I can't take too many folks talking about Mahommes at 3 serious unless they can show the receipts of supporting that move BEFORE the 2017 draft. The pick should've been Watson if people are going to beat that dead horse, but no one is going to get on their soap box and scream it should've been Watson now. It would kill their facade of being some kind of expert.
I was definitely all in on Watson
This thread is still going eh? This is one of the dumbest topics ever proposed. Of course he was the right pick, GTFO with this nonsense.

How did Michael Huff turn out? 😄

I go wayyy back with you on this krizay. Some good times back then.

They both had 1 all pro season. Plus my want of Huff was based on his ability to also play corner. Not sure we ever got to see him try that.

Plus te Raiders started him off as a SS. His tackling was always the biggest knock on him. With his range being his best asset. OAK set him up to fail from the beginning. They eventually corrected their error. He led the league in PBUs his 2nd season as a FS and was named all pro his 3rd year as a FS

Would have been nice to see him at his natural position from the beginning

IMO Vernon Davis is the most underappreciated 49ers player of my lifetime.

With a very limited, risk adverse Alex Smith throwing him the football, he still was the top of the league in TDs over his career.

I feel like if Vernon played with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, or Tom Brady he would easily be a HOFer.

Miss me with the alligator arms and can't beat anybody crap. He wasn't the most natural catcher or route runner we've had but he wasn't the worst... and that's how some people act. He may not have played at his 4.35 speed but he was still faster than any LB he faced.
This, 100% just a crock of s**t

He played nearly 10 years here. Good pick during years we had a horrible front office. Likely the 3rd best TE we have ever had

3rd? I think you can make a strong case that VD was better than Brent Jones. He did break ALL of his Niner records.

I get you bumped it, but Mac Jones, your boy didn't do any better. Lol

I didn't bump it Chief!

That said, if Mac Jones was drafted to this team, which is what I preferred. Would Mac have performed better here than NE? Trey was drafted to a better situation and yet Mac was still better.

Mac sucked. Idk about your takes bro.

Thankfully, i'm not here to please you with my takes...bro

Good since…they SUCK. You're wrong about everything dude.
one of the takeaways from that era is we had a pass O revolving around VD and Crabs
A list of tight ends drafted in the first round since 2000

Bubba Franks
Anthony Becht
Todd Heap
Jeremy Shockey
Daniel Graham
Jerramy Stevens
Dallas Clark
Kellen Winslow II
Benjamin Watson
Heath Miller
Vernon Davis
Marcedes Lewis
Greg Olsen
Dustin Keller
Brandon Pettigrew
Jermaine Gresham
Tyler Eifert
Eric Ebron
O.J. Howard
Evan Engram
David Njoku
Hayden Hurst
T.J. Hockenson
Noah Fant
Kyle Pitts
Dalton Kincaid

IMO only a few have lived up to expectations and just looking at the list none of the top tight ends today were drafted in the 1st round. Doesnt look like TE is a great value pick at all in the 1st round. But at the same time going back and looking at the 2006 draft where we took VD, not a whole lot to write home about regarding the players picked after him in rd 1.

Good post

Ya TE hasn't been a great value pick for a while now. You're better off looking at late round guys with good upside.
Still yes
