In hindsight, was Vernon Davis worth the 6th Overall in 2006?

Thats how i feel about it. If every player we drafted in the first turned out as good as Vernon, we'd never have an issue.

Half the picks in the top 10 of drafts turn out to be busts. VD made two pro bowls and scored 55 TD's in a decade as a Niner. Id say that was well worth the pick. He had two 13 TD seasons. Its not like anyone picked after him was some legend that we missed out on.
I'd say yeah.

Yes. He was a TE, but also our best reciever most of his time here. That is kinda sad because he was never great at catching the ball, he had good.
Definitely.. he was outstanding in both the run and the pass game.. it took him a few years, but he ended up being excellent. Had a pretty long career too and was productive with other teams.
Easily. He shattered TE records in the playoffs and was the only TE to catch 13+ TDs in multiple years until recently I believe. Also, he was doing this with an AVERAGE qb at best. Alex Smith was not good until later on in his career.

VD was also being bracketed and doubled covered quite a bit bc we rarely had great wrs or a great qb. Imagine if he had Brady or Brees or even a good an throwing to him.

What's the "St" stat? Years as a starter?
Absolutely

I think his first catch was that catch and run touchdown against the packers. Was beautiful
Yes

Would've been cool to see Whitner as a niner

At one time he was considered the best TE in the league. I dont really know what else you can ask from the 6th overall pick. If you're considered the best at your position at any point in your career, then you're worth the pick..
He was but the niners didn't trade 2 first to trade up.
Nope
Considering mock drafts at the time had us taking him or AJ Hawk, then yeah. But he never quite lived up to the hype surrounding him. George Kittle is what everyone was expecting Vernon Davis to be.

it also pissed me off when Alex Smith was injured and he basically threw him under the bus when praising Kap.

It was also quite funny how he was on the Colin Cowherd show today and they were talking about how he was the prototype of the great TEs we see today and he name dropped Kelce and Gronk but didnt mention Kittle, and to me it came off as petty and jealous because its obvious 49er fans dont remember him too fondly and have basically forgotten about him because of Kittle. Just the vibes I got. the way he was "struggling" to remember TE names. idk.

Vernon has made it so anytime I see a player jump catch I immediately do not want him on my team.
