I remember being happy about Vernon Davis, but not like ecstatic. The ones that stick out to me were Willis, Crabtree, Foster, and Bosa. Where you were praying that was the pick and it actually happened. Obviously Foster turned out to be a disaster, but the value of trading back into the first and getting a prospect like that had everyone buzzing.
Either way, this year is going to be an emotional letdown. We either take Fields or Lance and kind of exhale after a month of holding our breath, hoping we'd swing for the fences with a bold trade like this,.....or we take Jones, and everyone's entire day is ruined.

It didn't pan out the way I wanted, but at the time Crabtree. I was so stoked when the raiders passed on him to draft Heyward-Bey. Speaking of stoked I was also pretty excited when JJ Stokes was drafted . . . at the time I thought he was the heir to the John Taylor throne. In hindsight maybe I'm a terrible evaluator at WR. . . though I can honestly admit I was not feeling the Jenkins pick that Baalke had sealed in an envelope the night before the draft. It felt like a reach at the time and well . . . I don't think I need to rehash what happened.

That did happen lol. I forgot which game it was, but I was hoping Manny would shut some TE down the same way Julian Peterson did Tony Gonzales. Lawson did have a solid career though.

Crabtree. Which just goes to show how wrong fans can be.

This. Even the Willis pick was considered questionable at the time. Remember the big Adam Carriker debate.

Crabtree for me. I didn't think there was a chance in hell he'd fall to us. I was at a draft party and even did a keg stand after the pick.
I loved the Bosa and Patrick Willis picks but they were kinda expected.

I was super thrilled about Bosa being available, but I think Vernon Davis takes the cake. Davis was more of a "sexy" pick because there was the combine build-up with all of his insane measurables. A tight end with a 4.38 40 time with the most chiseled physique imaginable.
Bosa was obviously a better prospect, but he wasn't quite as flashy, in that he was more of a "clinical technician of his occupation" as opposed to Davis who was like, "wow, this guy could break the game of football, his combine numbers were unprecedented". As an analogy, it's kind of like saying, Peyton Manning was a better prospect than Michael Vick, but Vick was in my opinion more alluring, novel, and exciting.
Also, extending beyond the first round, I absolutely loved the 2013 draft. Especially Marcus Lattimore and Tank Carradine. Those were two pre-draft internet darlings. So many of the prospect sites hyped them up on sleeper lists. I lost count of the number of times I read, "if it weren't for the injury, Lattirmore/Carridine would've been a lock in the first round". (Which, I'll add, is an incredibly tired cliche that is thrown around like candy.)

I remember that play and the failed superbowl series where gore didnt touch the ball once.
There are hall of famers like gore, then there are losers like crabtree.
Yes because every player who gets drafted in the 1st round is going to be a HoF like Gore (who was a 3rd round pick btw).
Crabtree is blamed for an under-thrown ball by Kap here? Also in that failed SB series it's not his fault Roman (who is a fantastic play caller overall) went away from Gore. Let's not forget how Crabtree was mugged for 3 plays on that series also and the refs decided to swallow their whistles because they didn't want to alter the outcome.
Crabtree was a GOOD and productive pick for us. He was even good for a few years on the Raiders after playing for us.

The two guys I wanted in 2006 were Davis and Lawson. Needless to say, I went nuts. Also got the guys I wanted most in 2007, 2009, 2016, and 2019.
