I remember watching him dominate in the blue/grey game.....,,.,,yeah I'm that old 😂
For me the most exciting pick is always the next pick. I may be let down after it comes in but I'm always excited leading up to it.
I was pretty hyped for Julian, Andre, Vernon, Pat, and Nick.

Buckner and Bosa was the only times in recent memory I experienced joy on draft night. A lot of the rest were meh in the last decade

The first draft that I really started paying attention was the J.J. Stokes draft in 1995. I thought we had the next generation of Jerry Rice. I guess you could say we took that the next year with T.O. at least production wise anyway.

the TO JJ tandem was ruined the minute JR came over and demanded the ball..
Crabtree
Todd Kelly
Was behind only Reggie White in sacks while at Tennessee when drafted and then * poof * nothing in the NFL
5.5 sacks in 4 years lasting only 2 with SF
Crabtree and Rashaun Woods
The defense got OLD and sloooow in the late 90s. s**t hit the fan in 99 so I was pumped for Julian, Ahmed and Andre in back to back drafts. The resurgence in 01 involved huge contributions from all 3 plus guys like Webster, Engleberger and others taken later. (Not to mention the awful drafting from 1997-1999... Druckenmiller, McQuarters, Reggie McGrew )

Years later I remember being pumped for VD, Willis and Staley. Staley was a late first round projection by Todd McShay who was really glowing about Staley. After that it would be Crabtree and Bosa.

100% this. I thought he was going to be great. I also liked Ryan Leaf over Peyton so yeah.

I was born in 90 so too young to remember any scouting or draft hype on Stokes. I do remember watching him as a kid though. Just looked up his college stats and looks like he had a really good junior year but had a terrible senior season. His production dropped by more than half in terms of yards and only 4 TD's compared to 17 the year before. He only played one less game in his senior season too so what happened there? Why was he so highly touted and a top 10 pick with only one good season as WR in college and that wasn't even the same year he ended up being drafted?
I was sooo stoked about Vernon, Manny Lawson, Willis, and Crab

He even sucked as a "pro fisherman" lol.
