We "fleeced them" so it must have been a lot. All 3 picks involved in that transaction were turds. Trubisky, Solly, and Foster.

We did get Fred Warner with that 2018 3rd they gave us, though. So fortunately it wasn't all for naught.

Something can still materialize with the Jets. We're so close to #2 - a 2nd or 3rd round pick may get it done.

We would be dumb to trade up again.

Why, don't you want Wilson better than the other three?

Dont you think we called the Jets before we called Miami? They obviously said "no, were taking someone there."

This was my 1st thought. I just ASSUMED Sala told Shanalynch "We're taking the best pass rusher" and THEN they made the deal

I think the Niners rank it 1. Wilson 2. Jones, but they don't have the capital to move up. They're only hoping that somehow the Jets choose to pick someone other than Wilson (which they won't).

Now I'm sure they'd love to move back a few picks, but they worry Atlanta may want Jones too to replace Ryan. Plus there may not even be a market for it.

So essentially the Niners are where they and will pick Jones. He's not glamorous, but he fits what Shanahan thinks he needs, and if he's right, then we'll all be really happy.

I'd definitely rather have Wilson too, but if Shanahan thinks Jones (or whichever other QB they might pick but I do think it'll be Jones) fits what he needs, then here you go Kyle— make it happen. There will be an immense amount of pressure on both Kyle and the new QB. If they were somehow to trade back and get Lance or Fields or even Jones, then that would alleviate some of the pressure, but not much. At the moment it looks like he's pushed in all his chips. It'll be interesting for sure.

You don't trade the assets they just traded to pick Mac Jones. Period. They could've paid less for the 6th spot and easily gotten Jones there.

I would speculate Warner is the only way we would ever get to #2 if the Jets were willing to deal.

#2, #23, and #65

for

#3 and Warner

I'd seriously consider that trade.

We would then just trade Jimmy for the Pats 2nd rounder at #46 and out picks in the first three rounds would be

#2 - Wilson
#23 - Ojulari
#43 - Best MLB available
#46 - CB
#65 - OL
#102 - CB

With the money saved from Jimmy and no Warner extension can sign Clowney/Kerrigan for a year and Bouye. CB would now be restocked and EDGE reinforced.

lol....So we trade the best ILB in the game to move up one spot and take a QB that might be just as good as the other one left at 3, then we sign crappy Jadeveon Clowney with the savings? What kind of derp maneuvering is this?

What kind of derp rebuttal is this?

Clearly you aren't high on Wilson lol.

Obviously if not high on Wilson why do this? I agree you shouldn't.

Don't have to sign Clowney on a 1-year deal - that is a quaternary point of the post. Insert free agent "whoever you like" instead of Clowney/Kerrigan.

This idea is for those who think there is a significant gap between Wilson and the other 3, and aren't as high on Fields/Lance/Jones.

You also conveniently in your rebuttal ignored receiving pick #23 and #65 in addition to #2.

Warner is the franchise QB of the defense. Hes FAR too important to trade away to take a QB you might like slightly more. Fields has just as much upside. The difference between Wilson and Fields is not first team All-Pro, captain of the defense Fred Warner. Please. There are scouts who have Fields higher than Wilson. Shanahan might ever value Fields higher than Wilson.

As I mentioned, I think the Niners believe the Falcons may want Jones as well, and at 3, they have the chance to get Wilson if he somehow falls. This way they're guaranteed to get one or the other. So would picking Jones at 3 be overreach? From a pure talent ranking perspective, probably yes, but first of all, not by too much, and, from a positioning perspective it simply might be necessary to get the guy Shanahan wants.

From what I've read, some teams likely have Jones higher up on their draft boards than the mainstream media presents-- specifically the Falcons and Eagles. I expect the only reason the Eagles traded out of 6 was because the Niners traded ahead of them and with now at least 4 QBs expected to be picked before 6, they see moving back as better value. In other words, Jones may no longer have been available at 6 and, even if he were, the Eagles may have still been in the market for a QB (possibly Jones) and wouldn't have traded back. Shanahan made this move because it guarantees he gets 1 of the 2 QBs he wants, and if it's his 2nd choice, then he's willing to overpay for that assurance.

I would trade Warner for the #2 pick straight up. He's worth a top 10 pick on his own. But Lynch should be fired on the spot if he ever traded Warner to move up 1 spot. This is something Grant would suggest.
