Just an observation, but if a HC/GM is really interested in protecting their QB from injury, build OL first. Actually the GREAT Lombardi, not the tiny ones, said, "build your LINES first." Then you don't have to hire a kyle murray. And we all saw what happened in last yrs SB when the best QB in yrs was running for his life behind the MATADOR OL that KC had. And as i recall, he and KC lost. Actually despite Mahomes efforts, KC lost. Altho injured, their OL was putrid.

Agree, the OL is important. What did the Bucs do to protect Bradey-draft an OL. What happened to Mahomes-running for his life because of injuries and bad OL. Same with Dak. Why Wilson is in b***h mode nowadays.

With that said, you can be injured from anywhere. My concern is a running/mobile QB if not discipline, can have a penchant for taking off in panic and not let the play develop and heading up field. A QB that move, slide and dance in the pocket is preferable.

Their is also the caveat that if you rely on it, when you get older you lose that and may be less capable, where as a non mobile does not rely on it a much and his game may not be as affected.
Putting all the BS aside, Lance is CLARK KENT, and Jones is another pocket statue in the Kyle Shanahan mode. Kyle plays afraid in the clutch. Always has! He's a stubborn man and has never been a risk taker. Don't confuse creative play calling with risk taking. He is conservative. Let's hope he has the cojones to make the right call for the future, listens to Lynch, and selects TREY LANCE. We've seen statues and don't need another one. LANCE is just waiting to put on the cape and FLY...

Shanahan is not even remotely conservative, at any level. How many guys have they aggressively traded for that no one else thinks is that good? How many 4th quarters has he went for the kill shot instead of running the ball?
Mostert had the greatest game from scrimmage of any RB in Niner playoff history in the NFL Championship Game. 220 yards on 29 carries with 4 TDs. Shanahan didn't even start him in the Super Bowl and ignored him until it was too late preferring instead to turn the game over to JimmyG who was not up to the task. Kyle has a strange need to appear brilliant but backs off when the chips are down. He has proven it now in two Super Bowls. Let's hope he wakes up out of his stupor and forgets Jones and selects LANCE.
FINALLY! Shanahan uses his head for more than a hatrack! Picks LANCE! Good job, Kyle!
Tom Brady says hello.

5.28 40 yard dash at the combine.

24.5 inch vertical at the combine.

7 Super Bowl victories with 2 different teams.

This is what really grates me about the constant JG criticism. Shanahan and Lynch did not build an Oline that could pass protect but wanted a pocket passer. They could not give a toss whether the QB was injured because of it. Last year they even forced him back in the line before his ankle was injured. Now he is broke it is looking a hell of a lot that they are just disguarding a broken toy. I hope Kyle is genuine about making it a competition between JG and Trey and JG has the opportunity to take his game to the next level. If Kyle is just playing lip service to this and really plans to trade JG as soon as he is done then karhma will come and bite this team.

Those are all true. It's why Brady and Brees can play so long. Because they never relied on mobility. It was never a big part of their game.
Running QBs are a waste of money. Not only is a team paying that QB a ridiculous amount of money to not throw, they are paying the skill players and the OL a ridiculous amount of money to not run, catch, or block.
Can you define a "running QB" before using the term? I've seen Tom Brady run with the ball,... and he hasn't been a waste of money.

The top 4 QBs would be a waste, I guess, because all 4 have clearly shown they can take off and dust the competition.

Challenge: Erase this term as a stigma and clearly define what it is so we can weed through who fits this category and who doesn't, beyond how they look.

Upside, potential, he's 6'4", an excellent athlete, can run, can throw = Alex Smith.

Clean from the pocket, great mechanics, goes through reads and progressions fast, makes very accurate throws = Aaron Rodgers.
