Assuming the team is relatively healthy in 2021 and the QB is healthy the entire season, what would be the 49ers record with each QB as the starter?
Jimmy: 11-6
Mac Jones: 8-9
Justin Fields: 6-11
Trey Lance: 5-12
If Jimmy is healthy, this is a playoff team and challenging for the division.
Putting any rookie QB on the field, especially with offseason COVID restrictions, means missing the playoffs. And there will be yet another fan meltdown.
So, why not keep Jimmy this year, then trade him next offseason when the rookie has a bit more experience?
I honestly don't see what the issue with this is.

I think our Def is still a question mark with our new Def Coordinator. I wouldn't chalk up wins yet, we can have a good Off and a sorry Def and still have a losing season.

Saleh was not awesome in his first year.
could be foretelling.
Although it does not appear that the scheme is changing much so its a different situation.

Saleh also didn't have the defensive talent in the first year that we currently have.

Dak Prescott won 13 games in his rookie season, a year after the Cowboys went 4-12.
Ben Roethlisberger won 13 after the Steelers went 6-10.
Andrew Luck won 11 after the Colts went 2-14.
Russell Wilson won 11 after the Seahawks went 7-9.
Joe Flacco won 11. Matt Ryan won 11. Lamar Jackson won 10.
Joe Burrow nearly threw for 300 yards/game last season, while Justin Herbert had his monster 4300 yard, 31 TD season last year. Kyler Murray was pretty effective his first year, as was Baker Mayfield.
We're seeing more and more that teams are able to insert rookie QBs in and they have success. Kyle Shanahan was the OC when RG3 had his monster rookie season.
I'm pretty sure that a rookie QB can come in and have success this year, though I'm pretty sure Shanahan and Lynch want to redshirt the rookie. But if there's a good offer for Jimmy, then I'm confident this team can make the playoffs with the rookie... especially if it's Jones or Fields. Lance is a bigger question mark.
Our team and system is very QB-friendly, and it's a run-first offense. I'd be surprised if the rookie was ineffective. And if it was Fields/Lance, Shanahan will call plays that take advantage of their mobility.

Fair point.
