The #49ers drafted a guard, which some experts found to be a 'reach.' So, I took some time and did their job for them.

Spoiler: the experts are wrong.
Also, a huge hat tip to @splash_cousin for the assist here. #49GM #NFL #FTTB #GoNiners https://t.co/qgOQhSg9Et

Banks can really move. SF believes they've landed an athletic freak
That's saying something...as a team, didn't they run a ton too?
He looked like he had lost some lbs too since the end of the season. I would imagine we want him around 315.
ND were pretty balanced (almost 50/50) in 2019. This past year though they averaged 30.2 pass attempts per game and 42.1 rush attempts per game. So yeah pretty run heavy
Nice! TY.
Yeah ND is a run heavy team, they're not an NFL Offense, but they still pass just as much as you'd like, but yes from the games I watched as a fan, my Irish are a run first/heavy team, they've always had good backs, college wise, maybe not always pro back good. The OL is always good too. Defense as well, I think NDs issue is QB play, Ian Book was a good QB, but they never are really a contender for the National Title, just cause of the QB. Plus also look at their top TE from 2020, Tommy Tremble, he isn't a pass catcher, he's a run blocker, I know some wanted to compare him to Juice, but Juice has 1 big thing over him, Juice can actually catch and run with the ball.

I'm so tired of people saying "oh they reached for so and so, and they could have gotten him a round or 2 later, or as a UDFA" a lot are fans, but then you have the talking heads, Kiper, McShay, Brooks, Jeremiah(Who I actually like), Charles Davis, and the former executives like Polian or Casserly, I don't give a F*ck what they think, if the 49ers feel Banks was the right pick, I'm good with it, and will support it, root for him, hope he succeeds, I think Banks will, same for Sermon, Thomas, and the rest of the draft picks.

originally it was a head scratcher for me, but damn I actually love this pick now.
Only critique I have on him would be I didn't see him finishing guys much. The pancake department lacks for someone his size. But dude is just a solid solid prospect without much weaknesses. In pass sets, he locks on and I don't recall seeing any missed assignments in the run game. He is slower though and would much better fit a power scheme, but I did see ND run zone as well and he was fine. Going to be really interesting seeing him develop and how he fits in this offense. Freaking love it, I think this dude locks up a Guard spot with us for a long time.
That would be my only critique as well but we all remember all the pancake blocks Garnett had at guard in college so? Pass pro is our teams biggest weakness so giving up 2 sacks across over 1200 snaps in 2 years is super impressive.

That and on top of the "reach" takes, early reactions were repeatedly "he's not a great fit for what they do" as if some other organization made the pick for them. Come on man.

Yeah that's pretty funny. That's stuff people say before the draft. Once the team actually drafts them using that excuse is pretty stupid.

Yep, agreed 100%, they act like the coaches and scouts drafting these players don't know the prospects better than these talking heads.

Amen to that. Banks is still the guy i most want to see play. Watching his film is just a kick in the azzz. Funny thing to be that big and have quick feet. But basketball teaches that and he played BB for a while. Same goes for Moore another BIG guy...quick feet. One would think that all other GMs/HCs know that but obviously they were looking at other things. These two guys make this a great draft. And they haven't even played a down yet.
Between Brun and Moore, we are really in good shape OL wise. Can't believe i am saying that. Oh, and Banks starts at RG.

I can envision a OLine like this in the future.
LT- Trent Williams
LG- Jaylon Moore
C- Alex Mack
RG- Aaron Banks
RT- Mike McGlinchey
6th OL(Do it all OL): Daniel Brunskill
7th OL(T/G): Colton McKivitz
Draft another OL next year, decide on whether they view Brunskill as the future C, if not, draft someone next year.

I don't care if Bosa can train him to withstand twisty, choppy, swimmy pass rush judo. Keep him away from Bosa.

Doesn't really matter NOW where the kids got drafted, lets hope they make the team and make a difference.

This is our starting OL in the future with a good rookie C or 2nd year C ready to takeover for Mack. Laken will unfortunately be supplanted by Moore but we need better pass pro and a fraction of the price
