And i believe moore is going to start too, perhaps this yr, meaning we may have 5 bona fide starters and 3 others that COULD start. Rags to riches.

You got Moore starting over Lake?

I wonder. Laken had some real problems in PP , altho he did have the proverbial "swinging gate" to his Right. Hopefully his PP improves with Mack there and then it is just a competition, Best 11. But yes, i could see him as LG sometime later this yr, but he would have to earn it. Probably the best thing is that it will make Laken play all that much harder to keep his starting position. That can only be to the good for us .The real point is that as a 5th rd pick, he sure looks to have potential to start…sometime. And if that means with Brun, McKivitz, and Moore…if we happen to have 3 talented OLs who could start, besides Trent, Laken, Mack, Banks, McG…then we finally have an OL that can protect our #1 guy, no matter who is at QB. And if we were short anywhere since arrival of KS/JL, it has been OL.

I like what you're saying. If anyone is going to beat out Tomlinson it's Banks. I just don't see the less touted prospect Moore beating out Tomlinson at the more prime guard position to boot. The best OG on the team is usually the LG. Why would they put the higher drafted guard on the right and then let the lower drafted guard try and beat out the guy on the left?

But MCG would be starting at RT.

I think Banks beats out Tomlinson pretty easily.

Nah I would take Brown or Samuel over Banks. I think Brown with someone like Lance could have been a great combo.

I wouldn't spend a 2nd rd pick on a WR3. Rather shored up a longtime weakness at RG with a solid player that could start in day 1. To me, the first 2 picks should be players that could come in and compete for a starting gig. Banks is one, Brown won't since Deebo and Aiyuk are sure starters. Samuel might be one but we already have JV and Moseley locked in as starters. RG was clearly a big weakness and a open spot for competition, so Banks makes a lot of sense and JL and KS agreed.

Exactly, I can understand wanting Samuel but Guard makes too much sense. It's been a problem for years. Need to protect injury prone jimmy and the franchise. Not only that but if Banks is a Stud Kyle Shanahans run game gets a massive boost

Who's to say Brown is a just a WR3? Love Deebo (was a bigger AJ guy coming out) but he hasn't been able to stay on the field.

RG is one of the lower impact positions in football, regardless of what anyone says…spent a top 50 pick on it and imo you gotta be a pro-bowler at that position to make it worth it.

hope banks becomes that, just thought it was an over draft on their part.

I'll take DB/WR over RG any day. Shoot I would have taken Creed Humphrey at C over Banks.

End of the day, I don't dislike the pick at all and I get it…would have went in a different direction though.

totally disagree….banks has to beat brunskill at RG before he does anything.

I would not be surprised to see McG's overall play step up big time. It sounds like he has been fine tuning his body to find the sweet spot between run, pass pro and overall health. If Banks win the job this should help as well, for a few reasons. Just a big, solid, nasty guard. And don't rule out the domer thing ... all the shared college experiences and such. I could see them being as tight as he was with Staley.

I think he'll be much Improved this year, especially since he's gained plenty of weight, which should prevent him from being pushed around like a ragdoll.

I don't even think Banks competes at LG this year. The main thing that would keep Tomlinson off the roster or "beat out" Tomlinson is his salary. They could let him walk and slide Banks over to LG next year. Moore would then compete at RG. People keep acting like the OL is ready for no Tomlinson this year but it's a next year thing.

100% Agree here on this too.

We were certainly drafted for now (RG) but even more importantly for the future. Feeling this is also coming down to money; do the 49er think Tomlinson who's limited in PP will be worth the market-driven raise for his services in 2022 and beyond? I think they're looking for more talented and cheaper options. If Banks wins the comp at RG and balls out, they will absolutely try him at left and let Moore et all battle it out for the best starting 5.

Another alternative is to platoon Tomlinson and Moore, alternating quarters. Niners did this at right guard (and left tackle) during a Super Bowl season.

Because of injuries? I don't think teams use rotations or platoons on the OL.

I would have taken Creed Humphrey or Quinn Meinerz over Banks but I'm starting to like the pick a lot more. He was considered a 2nd/3rd round pick but then slid in rankings the few weeks leading up to the draft.

Did people actually think he was replacing Tomlinson?
