Ambry Thomas, CB - Michigan, 3rd Round Pick

I have to say I have been ripping on this guy for being so inconsistent and allowing so many touchdowns and big plays/penalties. However, these past couple games, I am starting to change my opinion about him. He is an outside corner, but he has been burned on the outside quite a bit, especially with double moves. Maybe he's learning not to bite as much and staying more disciplined.

Most DBs do that. I dont think it has anything to do with how Ahkello actually played. I dont think he sucked per se, but he always was on that verge of becoming solid, but never actually could put it together and ended up below average-ish. Moseley jumped the hierarchy and then he became a FA and team went into another direction, which was obviously completely natural. He is/was still starting for NFL teams so hes not outright terrible but not good either.

Before last couple of games, if I had a choice between Ahkello or Ambry Id take the former every time. Hopefully Ambry shuts me up, Im still not sold on him.

Nah stay on his neck, it's working. I was all over Fred Warner last season for not giving 100% effort, and now he's playing at an NFL defensive player of the year level. It works sometimes lol.
Yea he's had 2 good games but I need to see more that to start changing my opinion. If he holds up against the Eagles wrs then that's saying something for sure.

Same. This is the game.
Ambry even when he struggled alot he always seemed to be in good position which was the frustrating part. I felt he got to grabby when he didn't need to and he lacked the ball skills to atleast knock the ball down. But instead the receivers always seemed to come down with the catch or draw a flag. But I rarely ever saw him get burnt on a route where the receiver had like 5_ yards of seperation on him.

we just needed patience w/this guy... never knew why DEMO took over his spot to begin with.. if you think about it, Ambry just looks MORE natural on the outside instead of being a NICKEL.... that by the way should only be WOMACK's ISLAND !!
If Thomas keeps this up, he'll earn himself the right to compete for a starting job next year.

We still need to shore up our depth, so I'd still add at least one pure nickel and then another guy who can play inside and out.

Hopefully with a couple new faces and Luter developing, we'll have a solidified group going forward.

Quality young DBs is the key to keeping this defense elite. The team splurged on Mooney and we know they aren't shy paying for DL. Drafting good DBs (rookie contract) is a must.
Ambry becoming a good player will help so much and fills a huge need since it also solves the slot CB position (Lenior).

I was on the cut Ambry bandwagon, but not anymore, he's looked real good the past 2-3 games, looks more disciplined as you said.

I'm betting that Wilk's coaching is a big difference maker in our DB's improvements. Hope it keeps up.

Yeah, he reminded me of Witherspoon by how much he got burned, and then he would flash for one or two plays the whole game. Let's hope this guy works out, that would solve so many of our issues on the backend, especially since Hufanga is gone
