The difference is we had already drafted a guy they felt good about starting last year. I don't think they feel good about starting Thomas. There's nothing to suggest right now that Thomas will be fine. He wasn't Mike Rumph, but his rookie year wasn't encouraging either and then he followed it up with a not so good preseason/training camp. Mosely has got to be a priority number 1 free agent and I'd get this deal done before the season is over. They let a 13 million dollar guard walk. I don't think Mosely will cost us that much. He'll be expensive, but not 13 million UNLESS we let this drag out to March, then all bets are off.

But a guy like Mike Rumph was a 23yr old corner entering the NFL with 3 years starting experience coming out of Miami. Thomas was a 20yr old rookie with a half of season starting experience coming out of college. If he did not play well those 4-5 games during our playoff stretch, I would be ready to dismiss him after this bad pre season and camp but he did show he can start in this league and it wasn't just 1 or 2 games and they were some big, important games where he played well to very well and I think he showed he has the talent to be a starting NFL corner and at the very least be a good 3rd or 4th Cb

I'm not saying dump him. My point is do you feel confident enough in Ambry Thomas to let Emmanuel Mosely depart in free agency? I want the strongest secondary possible and having Mooney and Mosely as our starters, with promising young guys like Womack, Lenoir, and even Thomas bodes well for our corners going forward. Add in the slight possibility that we see Verrett return to form and this is an elite CB room (collectively). Ideally I'd like us to go into the 2023 draft not having to draft a corner (although they should) and can focus resource on safety and OL.
I wasn't confident in this guy on draft day or his best moments late in the season and playoffs. He's #5 and likely was the 7th or 8th best corner in camp and shouldn't even be on our team. I hope he improves and becomes a solid backup. I also hope we never need him to start. Extend Moseley please

Went from looking like a complete bust the first 8 weeks of the season to becoming a solid starting corner 5-6 weeks later to looking a very good starting CB the last 2 games of the season and playoffs. He looked like an emerging good looking 21 year old starting corner going into the off season but then had an awful camp and pre season and I mean awful and got banged up and there were even questions wether he would make the team lol. He was always going to make the team because he's 21 and a 3rd rd pick from a year ago and showed he can be a starting NFL corner but man has he seemed to regress. Luckily we don't really need Him right now with Ward & Mosley as our starting Cb's and Womack looking like a really promising player and taking control of the Nickel CB spot. Really, Ambry might need even dress the first few weeks or season with Lenoir being the 4th CB right now, so hopefully he can get his mind right because at some point we probably will need him and man he looked way to promising during our playoff run as a 20yr old rookie CB to just washing out a year later. I think something is wrong mentally with him and hopefully he can get his mind right, especially if he's not dressing the first few game or more to start the season........

Shannahan puts a lot of promising players in the dog house in the 2nd year to see how they handle it i think it might be one of those situations

He had a really rough summer. I still expect good things from him and for to be the eventual starter when Mosley gets paid. I think he's a gamer. Might not be a practice player but he showed up as a rookie in big moments last year especially in the playoffs.

Psssh. Better keep Mosely. Even if Thomas works out, we still have him under contract for two more seasons after this year, right around the time Ward's (CB) contract is up (1 year left). I hope Thomas improves to the point where we can count on him as a starter, but we aren't there yet and I don't think we should let a starting caliber corner go when we have the money to resign him.

I agree to this but they let a pro bowl G walk. I like Mosely and would love to keep him but someone will offer him money and I doubt we match it. I think Thomas will be fine.

I'm not saying to dump Mosely. I don't want to that happen. I like Mosely and feel just like with Lanken that would be a huge mistake. His rookie season was most certainly encouraging. I don't know what games you watched.

I wonder if Ambry will be have to be active, we need 5 CBs active each week IMO, injuries happen, Johnson can only play a max of 3 games while on the PS, yeah we have Knight, but I think Ambry needs to be active, give him a chance, hope he ends up like Aiyuk, ball out, but wants Moseley back long term.
He'll be active b/c he has some special teams value. no doubt the clock is ticking on his tenure. he needs to step it up
So did he fall off a cliff? Haven't heard his name called all season.

Too much talent in front of him. Feel bad for the kid bc he isnt beating out Mosely or C. Ward

Best thing for the team is that his name is not heard all season. And that's nothing against him.
