Probably should be extending this guy now

Facts. Idk what the longterm plan is, but it might be a case of too many mouths to feed. Lenoir, Ward, Hufanga, Greenlaw, and Aiyuk are all deserving. Then when you add Purdy, CMC, Deebo, Bosa, Armstead, Wlliams, Hargrave, Kittle which would make for 13 guys making 10 million plus.

If we are about 3 guys lighter in terms of big contracts then I can buy us keeping the squad together.

That's why you extend a guy like Lenoir early. 5th round draft pick that has worked his way up to a solid outside and slot cb. You throw him some money now. Give him a a nice pay bump. He has another year like this in a row and he's going to be expensive. Kinda how they did Moseley. Our front office does a really s**tty job of identifying our younger studs and extending them early making their salaries easier to manage. That's why you got so many guys looking to get paid at once b/c the niners keep waiting around. Some of these older guys like Kittle and CMC are going to be gone just like AA. You can't keep extending older players and expect them to be healthy and your roster to stay competitive more than a 4/5 year stretch. It's what makes these SB loses so crushing. Father time is staring this roster in the face in a lot of positions. In terms of age and when the back loading of these contracts come due. They need to get younger cheaper replacements that are actually good players. That's not easy.

If you extend Lenior now he is no longer a young cheap player. Plus why would he sign a modest extension now when he can bet on himself and play well next year to get a big contract in 2025? If I'm Lenior thats what i would do. You look around the NFL and you really don't see the deals you are talking about bc the agents don't want that to happen. Plus players are extremely confident and they are going to try and get that big contract.

Good points. I agree with you from the player and agent perspective. But he's going to play himself out of our price range with a repeat performance. So you try to extend him now in hopes to keep him.

Yup, some players are happy and take a "good" deal early, but that's rare. (Greenlaw is the only one I can think of?) Most roll the slots for the bigger pay day. Who can blame them.
Between Lenoir and Ward, I would choose Lenoir. Only since he is younger and still has upside. Let Ward and Thomas walk after this season.

Yes, but you don't know if they have tried and his agent has nixed it.

Ambry isn't making the team IMO, I have 5 locks, Mooney, DMo, Green, Yiadom, & Ya-Sin, I'd try my best to extend both Mooney & DMo, Mooney is gonna count $12.298m in 2025 in dead money, an extension would wipe that out, likely be around his new cap number in 2025, & it saves $9.148m this yr.

Thomas is definitely on the way out. He's had too many chances and he is worse than Witherspoon was and that saying a lot.

We need to extend Ward and Lenoir, especially with the quarterbacks we will be facing in the Super Bowl, we definitely need two good corners. and Him if one of them gets injured, we would be in a bad position

Yiadom I think is gonna turn some heads this season.

Yep, he's starting the season opposite Mooney with DeMo manning inside.

If you go to Sportrac they show what % of the cap each player is using. You don't want half your cap space used by half a dozen players. In the long run it's not healthy. Players are just like the rest of us. They all feel they're worth more. If six or even eight guys take half or more of the cap the other players have to feel a little resentment. Football being the ultimate team game that it is. Linemen other than Williams are working just as hard as anyone.
Demo really was a life saver for us last year. If we can figure out the third cb spot with a stud - we can be dominant like KC was last year. They had a stable of young studs at CB that really made their defense stingy
