I can see this man putting fear into WR's trying to go over the middle.

he just has that IT factor i like in a safety, but i could see him getting time at LB too which is fine.

I think he's a great pick, but I hear he's too slow, especially at the NFL level

Too much is made of a players 40 time. Read why Trey lance didn't run a 40. He rightfully points out that the 40 is run in shorts from a sprinters stanc and doesn't always correlate to the actual speed. He feels using GPS to clock actual game speed in uniform is a better way to do it. I agree 100%

If you watch track you know how important the start is. Whe sprinters went up against Bolt they knew their only chance was to beat him out of the blocks because they couldn't match his speed. The same is true in the 40. The difference in times between the 2 runs is mostly about the difference in start. You can easily gain or lose time with a good or bad start. That could be the difference between 4.5 and 4.55 or 4.57. Using GPS will give you a reading of actual top speed which is more important than speed out of the blocks. Very few receivers or RBs try to go right to their top speed at the snap. Receiver sneed to shed the defender and then break. Runners need to find the hole and then run to it.

Hill has one of the fasted 40 times ever recorded but there were several players, including Mostert who were clocked at a higher top speed. In the end, it's not how fast a player runs the 40 in shorts at the combine after shedding a few pounds. It's about how fast he plays on the field which includes quick recognition of the play and where the ball is going. Hufanga is one of those guys that plays faster than his 40.

Don't let that talk concern you, he knows how to find the football.

Yeah he looks fast on tape because he has good instincts. That's all that matters.

Richard Sherman is a slow corner. Didn't stop him from being one of the best to play the position. Why? Tremendous instincts, attention to detail on technique and lots of time spent watching film. No reason Hufanga can't be similar. Sounds like he has the right attitude already by saying he wants to make the Pro Bowl this year for special teams!

While all this is true, the lack of speed shows up on tape in some cases. Then again, if you use him properly, to his strengths, then it's not a problem. Watch the game against UCLA and you'll see the good and bad. Overall, thankfully, the good outweigh the bad, and if we use him right, we'll have a good player for us.

I am not sure if he can be a long-term answer at SS. We like to have interchangeable safeties. Ward, Moore, and Tartt all have the speed and range to play FS if we want to disguise our coverage that way.

It is why a few here are talking about him as a LB.

My question is if asked, can he hold his own as a deep 1/2 1/3 1/4 and not be a liability. Basicallyif the goal on the play is to bait the QB into an INT.
He will be cut.

I think the combine workouts are a bit overrated. That is peak performance, they spend a month preparing for that day. Pro days are a bit better.

The 40 time for me is good for the splits. How fast you are out of the stance. Then your acceleration to top speed. Total time does not matter much. Especially for smaller schools where GPS and great camera angles may not exist.
He's slow.....until he sees the ball carrier lol

Unless he bombs he will make the team. Even if it just a ST ace.

His highlights look good, but he definitely looks like he has slow top end speed. Even on those interception returns he looks like a 4.7 guy. He can definitely play, though. His agility and short area quickness look great. Throw a few pounds on him and make him a linebacker if all else fails.
