This post will look very stupid. Receipt taken

I take your receipt of my receipt.

Cool. We'll revisit when the roster is announced or if/when he is cut.

Bump. I want to keep this statement live. Our former GM agrees with me and thinks he was a steal.

This was also funny but coming from you I think I understand it. You change your mind on him yet Mayo? I know you said that without knowing anything about him so I give you the benefit of the doubt

Dashing Goldson ran a 4.65 hit like him and got ints. I'd much rather have a playmaker like Hufanga that gets ints, forces fumbles and lights up people (great tackler) sacrifice some speed rather than a faster safety like Tartt or Ward that cannot get a turnover for their life.

Dashon Goldson was terrible in coverage, literally had one year without any ints, and got flagged for bone headed penalties. He'd be total food in today's game at FS.

I like this dude, he is more instinctive than Goldson. But the fact they thinking of trying him at SAM tells you that he won't really be a coverage safety.

I don't agree at all. Goldson was a pro bowl safety that was not terrible in coverage. He had a bad year or two, My point being that this new guy is a total playmaker even more so than Goldson and I doubt they are trying him at SAM. In the press conference Kyle said SS or in the box. Maybe in Nickle or Dime coverages he may take on a lb type of role like Harris.

I think with his instincts he will be more than fine in coverage. Speed isn't everything, diagnosing a play is more important. Just look at Tartt and Ward. Very fast but can't cause a turnover to save their lives. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when he starts at Tartts position in 2022 and makes plays

Yeah I'd take Goldson at this point. Goldson >> Ward and Tartt

Goldson sucked in coverage. He had the luxury of making gambles with a stacked d-line and linebacker core which let him free lance and grab those interceptions.

Huh? I guess I'd rather have a better coverage safety like Ward or Tartt that can't make a play to save their life. Turnovers are the MOST important thing a safety can do not be marginally better in coverage. That's why Goldson made the pro bowl and was considered one of the better all around safeties in the game. I can't say the same for our safeties since. He gambled and a lot of times and it worked. Plus he hit well.

Also, Ward and Tartt had the luxury of playing behind an elite DL and lb core so that point is completely invalid.

Scotty McCloughan thinks this guy is a steal in the 5th! Had him rated in the 3rd round. He's a good GM and I value his opinion. The team he built for Harbaugh and Baalke was a beast.
Tartt 4.53 40 and 7.03 3 Cone.
Hufanga 4.61 40 and 6.83 3 Cone.

Tartt is on a one year deal and if Hufanga can stay healthy. I think when Tartt gets injured Hufanga will come in and will keep the job for a while.
Hufanga has great instincts and is an excellent tackler. Hufanga would be a perfect fit in a 4-3 or 4-2-5 Cover 3 similar to what Kam Chancellor played albeit a smaller and faster version.

Hufanga needs to really work on his coverage skills. let's hope Tartt stays healthy.

That's the thing, the 49ers the past two seasons have asked more from their safeties when it comes to coverage. That Cover3 scheme had more defined roles - one guy was the middle deep safety, one guy played closer to the box. The FS/SS designations actually meant something.
If Demeco continues to use the safeties as interchangeable pieces, that would hurt Hufanga's chances. I think as is, Hufanga has a chance to beat out MHarris and that'll be a big win for him in 2021. He can then continue to develop and throw his name into the mix for a possible starting spot in later seasons. It's possible Demeco incorporates three safety looks and that would open the door for a third safety to get meaningful snaps.
Can we make him into a Jamal Adams

Tartt was also 20lbs bigger, people tend to just look at numbers and not the actual size of the prospects when comparing measurables.

Kam Chancellor was 230lbs and ran the same 40 as Hufanga.

Dude looks like he's got the mental makeup to play in the NFL, his athletic ability (for his size) is awful though. He's also banged up all the time....IMO he's a ST guy only.

and he can't stay on the field because of injuries

personally I would have rather taken these guys over him

Cornell Powell
Frank Darby
Jaylen Twyman
Shi Smith
Victor Dimukeje
Dazz Newsome
Hamsah Nasirildeen

I mean maybe he turns into a something, but I just think he's pretty limited athletically and he doesn't even have the size to help him.

I hear you but if he ends up being a special teams beast for years that worth a 5th rounder. At least imo its a way better argument than the punter thread lol
