Gonna get outrun by the ref.
I wonder if he's the same. Our Safety's suck at coverage deep. LOL. He is hugely instinctive, makes tackles, always around the ball. But he too was never fast with long speed deep. So all our guys are built the same way. Not speed demons deep for coverage. It's a problem. They other stuff they do well. We could use a little more coverage speed at the position though.

Based on his 40 time and not being clocked at over 20 mph on an INT return for TD?
For those complaining about speed Jaquiski Tartt was very fast. Too bad he had bricks for hands.

Like Eric Crocker said speed matters when you need it. We saw it on that JJ 97 yard TD. same as having ball skills.

it's not the end all be all. Huff is a damn good instinctive S. He's got a role and I think he's at his best closer to the LOS.

he will be a boost to this D for sure. I like him and Brown out there…very similar players

I like both. Problem is neither of them has speed. So Justin Jefferson will beat them both deep.

Thats funny.

I feel like the last couple of safety draft classes have been slow. the 2023 safety class i think they all ran in the 4.6 range even the top rated safety, Kyle Hamilton was slow.

Kyle Hamilton - 6'4" 224 lbs - 4.59. But with the long body and instinctiveness he plays like 4.45 or something. He's where he needs to be before the play gets there. He also has those long arms and height to reach far for the ball if he gets close. So he's tough to measure on forty time IMO.

The difference is Huff wouldn't have been out of position like Brown on that play. Safety is much MUCH less about speed than it is about instinct and simply being where you are supposed to be in coverage. There's a reason QBs try to manipulate safety's out of position with where they are looking; safety don't take the bait, QB doesn't throw there or risk getting picked

Neither should have been lined up on him to begin with. It was a horrible play call

Instinctive and experienced certainly helps at that position. Brown is instinctive. But less experienced. But in a raw foot race if somebody gets behind them they are both in trouble IMO. Better stop it before it gets to that point.

Yeah I agree. You want your best and 2nd best cover corner on him all game long. A Safety on him is just a terrible idea.

He doesn't play sideline to sideline and isn't a true FS. He is much like Huff and plays closer to the LOS than as a single high guy.

again it all comes down to scheme and using these guys where they can maximize their skills.

Also he's not tough to measure on a 40 time. He ran what he ran. He's not a straight light speed guy, never will be.

He's not straight line super fast. But his instinctiveness and huge long reach make up for a lot of that. That's what I'm saying. It's not as important to him. In fact if he is close he can just reach so far to knock down or intercept the ball. Because of the length. Honestly he plays more like 6'6" than 6'4". His reach is amazing. You always have to be aware if he's in the area.
