Hufanga is basically a hitter who happened to be in a lucky spot multiple times and come down with interceptions the year he made the pro bowl (which is a popularity contest unlike all pro).

He he had borderline benchable offences multiple times that year also.

Now that he's slower due to injury and just as bad fundamentally he's a name only. He really shouldn't be playing at all. He's going to continue to miss tackles and give up massive over the top tds.

He will be out of the league within 5 years...

Sell him while people still think he can play in the NFL. He's garbage.

Well I guess it's a good thing he was first team all-pro that year as well

boy you are all pro one year, hurt the next and trying to make a recovery and the fans are turning on you

He looks like another Jimmie Ward. Good player but he gets hurt a lot.

I have been up in the air on retaining him. It really depends on the price for me. I feel like they could draft a safety or two and the defense would be ok

Your name made me check out an under the radar Safety in Jacksonville contract. Andre Cisco will be a UFA after this year and he's someone this defense really could use.

Hufanga made up for his lack of speed by having nose for the ball. Some DBs just seem to be in the right place all the time. Unfortunately the bench isn't one of them.

We have 3 Safeties all cut from the same mold and that mold is what Lynch was back in his playing days. And closer to the LOS safety who plays down hill kinda like a 3rd or 4th LBer. We don't have a back end Safety who can bail out our CBs if they mess up. After seeing Cisco intercept a backside post as the play side cover 2 safety i was like we need that in the 49ers secondary.

Best name there is, but its actually my first name, not my last YES! We have plenty of SS types, we need a cover general back there with speed. Or ill take a unicorn who can do both. Cisco is a good player and that would solidify the middle of the D behind Warner.

Huff on IR...oh well. He is overrated even when he made the Pro Bowl.
Hufanga is a good instinctive player but definitely needed time to get going. Just can't stay healthy right now. Yes, he was a gambler sometimes, but he was still among the better safeties. Dunno if we bring him back though now unless super cheap.

I'd bet good money he comes back on a cheap 1 year prove it deal. Teams don't pay safeties essentially safeties who struggle staying healthy
Edit: nvm

We'll probably bring back Tracy Walker or promote Mahoney

He could never cover, he is overrated. We need a coverage safety not just a bunch of thumpers, and he is fragile to boot.
Well it sure is a good thing we didn't sign Justin Simmons when we had the chance! That $8.5 million sure does help us out so much more, just sitting there.
I think when Hufanga gets back, I'd seriously consider dropping him down as a hybrid SS/LB in some situations.

We could manage some disguises with that. Would be best probably as a base against a pass heavy team.

Dude doesn't know how to tackle anyways

If you look at 90% of tackles made pretty much no one wraps up anymore and they want to shoulder tackle the guy, which leads to lots of extra yards and extended drives that could be stopped.

Yep,time to sell high while other team's perceive value. Of course he will probably leave and then become his mentor for a kickass career

Likely because of rules, in order to wrap up the head goes in, and fines ADD UP fast. 5th round picks and later essentially lose a game check.
