Every team whiffs in every draft. Multiple times. This isn't an exact science. Sometimes you get a good player, sometimes a great player, and sometimes you miss on a pick.

Every team whiffs in the draft but this team whiffs a lot more than most when it comes to early picks. If you're going to use three firsts on a QB, it becomes especially crucial that you capitalize on your remaining picks and they've gotten nada thus far from their first three picks following Lance.

They could have picked right out of an Athlon or Lindy draft guide and still would have been more successful.

Yep. They got really cute and reached on Banks, Sermon, both corners. They could've went chalk and done 10x better.

eh, a 5th round corner is not a reach. but Banks, and Sermon sure were. especially Sermon, if he didn't play for a program like OSU he would've been a 3rd day pick.

Well I obviously meant some were bigger reaches than others. Banks and Sermon were obvious bad picks to me along with the Lance pick, which I feel was the worst of the whole draft. Banks was slop against real talent.

Let's just pretend Mitchell was the 3rd RD pick and Sermon the 6th.

Yeach let's not. They could have had added actually productive players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and still had Mitchell. Looking like two massive whiffs thus far.

Mitchell being great doesn't mean Sermon is bad, but Kyle is a clingy stalker. He won't even give sermon a series lol

Mitchell seems more of an outside runner , like Mostert, Sermon more inside. And they did have A Hicks abusing Brunskill inside.

How is Sermon an inside runner when he's made of glass?

yes, we are all aware you think Trey was a bad pick, and McCorkle should've been drafted 3rd overall, no need to keep repeating it lol

He has more production on the inside runs, but your right, he's not a 'Bana RB
Sermon seemed like an OK pick at first but clearly a waste now. Once Wilson is back, Trey will never see the field if the others stay healthy.

Mitchell and Wilson would be 1a and 1b, in no particular order.

I, like many fans, wanted Samuel in the 2nd. What is bothersome is not that the 49ers whiffed on the pick. It's when the pick is so obvious that the fan base gets it right and they still bungle it.

Its not like Samuel was the only guy there. It could have been Ojulari, it could have been Humphrey, it could have even been Moore. Every single one would be making an impact for this team right now. If you look at the next 10 picks after Banks, there's productive player after productive player in there. If Banks doesn't get it together, it will have been an especially bad busy considering who else was available right after him.
I have to admit i'm really impressed by Mitchell. After he was drafted all that went threw my head was cool he is a small back that might come in from time to time cause of his speed and give us some nice plays while the other backs get a breather. But when i noticed he was active week 1 over Sermon i then thought wow they must see him more in him than i originally thought. Mostert went down the kid stepped in game 1 and looked like a vet. He does a lot of things well and he is the key to the offense right now. When Wilson comes back i truly hope it's a 1A 1B type thing cause i don't want Mitchell on the bench. He earned his spot and might be a good piece to this teams future,
