Really hoping they thought Jamison didn't have the long speed to have a real spot on the team and Ilm didn't have the size and speed needed to be a good guard/tackle because right now losing those 2 hurt. If they thought they could squeak them through waivers they should've known the rams, cards and sea chickens like to do stuff like this to get under our skin.
It's also important to keep in mind that the 49ers were adamant about Ilm Manning playing guard long term. They relished his success at tackle in the preseason but were also quick to point out that it mainly came against third-string competition.
