The problem with Webster is if we had an injury or two at WR can he be able to fill in at that position? We haven't seen enough of him playing WR. He has one jet sweep I believe. If we use a WR spot on a special teams player he needs to be able to play WR which includes blocking. To me this is where Benjamin has the edge on him.
Matthews making it over pruitt I believe

Aiyuk is the punt returner

Tough cuts this season.

QB- (2) Jimmy, Trey
RB- (4) Mostert, Sermon, Hasty, Mitchell
FB- (1) Juszczyk
WR- (6) Aiyuk, Deebo, Sanu, Sherfield, Hurd, Jennings
TE- (4) Kittle, Dwelley, Pruitt, Woerner
OL- (8) T.Williams, Tomlinson, Mack, Banks, McGlinchey, Brunskill, Moore, McKivitz
DL- (10) Bosa, Kinlaw, Armstead, Ebukam, Key, Jones, Street, Givens, Ford, Hurst (placed on short term IR the next day)
LB- (5) Warner, Greenlaw, Al-Shaair, Harris, Griffith
CB- (5) Verrett, Mosley, K.Williams, Thomas, Lenior
S - (5) Ward, Tartt, Wilson, Hulfanga, Mayden
K- (1) Gould
P- (1) Wishnowsky
LS- (1) Pepper

PUP
Wilson
Moore

Key Cuts
Gallman (he will replace someone on the 53 the next day)
Nsimba (may be there for PS)
Flan (should make PS)
Kerr (signed next day to replace Hurst)
Mathews (should make PS)
Johnson (PS)
Benjamin (maybe PS)
Ha Ha (Mayden makes it over Ha Ha due to his versatility)
I'd hate for the fact that some of these other WRs might make the team over Travis Benjamin.

Dude is a Vet who still has his speed. He didn't drop any punt returns, and more importantly he caught Lance's fastballs for a TD.

I'd keep him over some Jennings or Webster.... and IMO, over Sanu as well.

There would be one more player with less than 3 accrued years added, to bring the total to the max of 6 with 3 or more accrued years, & 10 with 2 or less, for a total of $3.168 million used up.

*Denotes player with 3 or more accrued years
**Denotes International Pathway Player who automatically goes on the Practice Squad if the team chooses, but he's ineligible to play during the season.

So, this roster would leave the 49ers with $4,475,646 in salary cap room entering 2021, and if they restructure Arik Armstead, it goes up to $9,003,646, and if they also restructure or extend Laken Tomlinson, it goes up to $11,811,646.

💥 💰 🏦

I like it but Hasty won't clear waivers to be back on PS imo.
Trey Lance doesn't make the cut.

I disagree. I think Mohamed Sanu and Trent Sherfield are interchngeable. I would pick Sherfield, cut Sanu and keep Symba Webster as gunner, KR?PR. he is better than anyone on roster at that specialty and why risk your top WR for a PR or KR?

Uhh, I decide to sleep in one day, and now James hurt his knee, now we'll either have to carry him on short term IR, meaning he makes the initial 53, or we cut him with an injury settlement, or hope someone claims him, but either way it's a $920K loss in cap room, god I hate injuries, but I hate the NFL even more for decreasing the cap by $15.7M.

Amazing job you do AB, and are one of the reasons this website is so fascinating…not to mention educational.

Yeah, there's some financial issues, but they could get around it with a Armstead & maybe a Laken restructure, saves $7.336M, but adds $1.132M to AA's 2022-2024 cap numbers, and an extra $2.808M in dead money next year for Laken(Already at $1,005,530 due to his redo in 2020).

I really like Benjamin, so I've been going back and forth between him or Webster, I imagine either way he gets cut, either brought back to the PS or the next day to the 53 so they place someone on short term IR, idk who goes on it outside of James & Hurst, idk if Mitchell will now if he's healthy enough to practice.

I'm a huge Hasty fan, I kinda wish we didn't sign Gallman, cause this would be so much easier, just keep Mostert, Sermon, Hasty & Mitchell, but Gallman is such a good player IMO, tough choices like 60sfan said.
I didn't see James making this roster the way he's been dropping I mean playing.

By interchangeable do you mean Sherfield is just as good of a WR as Sanu? Cause Sanu can't do what Sherfield does on special teams as a gunner.

I hate the idea of Aiyuk as a Returner, either Kicks or Punts, just keep Benjamin then or Webster. The James injury pretty much narrows the 5th WR spot(also the Returner spot) down to 2, Benjamin & Webster. I don't want to see Jennings cut, he won't make it far on the PS IMO, and Hurd won't clear IMO, someone will claim him.

Doing a day-of 53 is almost moot at this point. The next day could look drastically different.

Up to a few days ago, we had this roster locked in but now it's a bit of a free-for-all.

I'm fairly certain Jaquiski Tartt is done too given at the end of practice off PUP, he was still trying to work out that toe. They probably should have left him on PUP until 100% ready but they probably felt with the log jam there, give it a go.

I wasn't up yesterday, any chance you can clue me in on what's happened besides James' MCL(I think) knee injury? What is up with Tartt, Mitchell, Hurd, etc...?

Also for those saying they want Matthews over Woerner, I don't get it, Woerner has improved so much, he looks better as a blocker, and now has the pass catching ability, I like our TE group, I'm fine with Matthews if we keep a 4th, if not, put on PS, maybe with Pruitt.

Sure!

So there were reports Tartt couldn't finish practice and was seen working his toe manually which is a pretty good indication his turf toe isn't responding. My guess, with Ward, Clinton-Dix, Wilson & Hufanga and with Harris able to play hybrid, they pulled Tartt off the PUP to see where he's at. It doesn't look good but we'll see.

Hurd still looked tentative in his agility drills but still made catches in practice including a fly sweep. If he makes it through the Raiders game he'll make the roster. He'll make it either way IMHO because of his upside, talent and the fact they spent a 3rd rounder on him. Tendonitis will need to continue to be treated and managed.

Richie is done here. 6 week knee injury and he was already on the outside looking in.

Mitchell is back and looked solid but probably too little too late ATM.

Agreed. Matthews would have to be a 4th TE. Not the 3rd over Woerner.

Thanks as always NC,

I think they'd likely put Tartt on short term IR, that way if he can come back, he only has to miss the first 3 games.

I don't see them cutting Mitchell, I really hope they keep him & Hasty somehow, would be wild if they kept all 5 backs + Juice.

I guess the roster could look something like this.

QB(2-3): Garoppolo & Lance, maybe Sudfeld(I hope not)
RB(4-5): Mostert, Sermon, Gallman, Mitchell & Hasty (Wilson on PUP)
FB(1): Juice
WR(6-7): Aiyuk, Deebo, Sherfield, Sanu, Benjamin or Webster, & Jennings or Hurd
TE(3-4): Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner, & maybe Matthews or Pruitt
OL(8): Mack, Brunskill, Banks, Laken, McKivitz, Trent, Moore, & McGlinchey
DE(5): Bosa, AA, Dee, Ebukam, & Key
DT(3): Kinlaw, Givens, & Street (Hurst on short term IR)
NT(2): Jones, & Kerr
LB(5-6): Warner, Dre, Al-Shaair, Harris, Griffith and/or Flannigan-Fowles
CB(5): Verrett, Moseley, K'Waun, Ambry, Lenoir
FS(2): Ward, & Wilson or Ha Ha or Mayden (Moore on PUP)
SS(2): Tartt & Hufanga
ST(3): Gould, Wish, & Pepper

60 total players listed, I just can't wait to see what combination they keep, I just hope just 2 QBs, Sudfeld isn't worth a spot, same, IMO, for a 9th OL, just put Brendel & Coleman on the PS, they don't go through waivers.

Could they keep all 5 backs? What about 7 WRs? I'd hate to lose either Jennings or Hurd. 5 or 6 LBs? If Tartt starts on IR, then 2 of Wilson, Ha Ha, & Mayden makes it. And a 4th TE? I can't wait.
