Well James was waived/injured, re-signed Cracraft, I'm guessing the 49ers are hoping someone claims James so they don't have to pay his $920K salary, if he does clear, he'll likely be cut with an injury settlement.

I think they'd likely put Tartt on short term IR, that way if he can come back, he only has to miss the first 3 games.

I don't see them cutting Mitchell, I really hope they keep him & Hasty somehow, would be wild if they kept all 5 backs + Juice.

I guess the roster could look something like this.

QB(2-3): Garoppolo & Lance, maybe Sudfeld(I hope not)
RB(4-5): Mostert, Sermon, Gallman, Mitchell & Hasty (Wilson on PUP)
FB(1): Juice
WR(6-7): Aiyuk, Deebo, Sherfield, Sanu, Benjamin or Webster, & Jennings or Hurd
TE(3-4): Kittle, Dwelley, Woerner, & maybe Matthews or Pruitt
OL(8): Mack, Brunskill, Banks, Laken, McKivitz, Trent, Moore, & McGlinchey
DE(5): Bosa, AA, Dee, Ebukam, & Key
DT(3): Kinlaw, Givens, & Street (Hurst on short term IR)
NT(2): Jones, & Kerr
LB(5-6): Warner, Dre, Al-Shaair, Harris, Griffith and/or Flannigan-Fowles
CB(5): Verrett, Moseley, K'Waun, Ambry, Lenoir
FS(2): Ward, & Wilson or Ha Ha or Mayden (Moore on PUP)
SS(2): Tartt & Hufanga
ST(3): Gould, Wish, & Pepper

60 total players listed, I just can't wait to see what combination they keep, I just hope just 2 QBs, Sudfeld isn't worth a spot, same, IMO, for a 9th OL, just put Brendel & Coleman on the PS, they don't go through waivers.

Could they keep all 5 backs? What about 7 WRs? I'd hate to lose either Jennings or Hurd. 5 or 6 LBs? If Tartt starts on IR, then 2 of Wilson, Ha Ha, & Mayden makes it. And a 4th TE? I can't wait.

I like the idea of only two QBs, BUT.... That would eliminate any chance of trading JG this season. Can't chance just having Lance and a street pickup or QB thrown in with the trade for the last part of the season and playoffs. Need to have a QB behind him that knows the offense and is ready to play.

It's gonna be near impossible to trade JG in season, or now, no one has the cap room, and he has the no trade clause.
I think 49ers are at a point with Mayden that they risk losing him if he doesn't make the 53. Best shot is to start the season with 5 CBs and 5 Safeties. Both Ward and Mayden could play corner in a pinch.

43. PK 9 Robbie Gould(2022)

Fighting for the last spots:

1. QB 7 Nate Sudfeld(2021)

3. RB 49 Elijah Mitchell(2024)
4. RB 23 JaMycal Hasty(2021)
5. WR 15 Jauan Jennings(2021)
6. WR 14 Jalen Hurd(2022)
7. WR 17 Travis Benjamin(2021)

13. FS 49 Ha Ha Clinton-Dix(2021)
14. FS 32 Tavon Wilson(2021)
15. FS 7 Jared Mayden(2021)

So 15 players vying for 8 spots.

They'll definitely be keeping 4 RBs, idk which 2 of Gallman, Mitchell, & Hasy

Also 6 WRs, so which 2 of these 4, Jennings, Hurd, Webster, & Benjamin

A 5th LB for sure, Griffith or Flannigan-Fowles, or both if they keep 6

A 2nd FS, and maybe another SS if Tartt isn't ready

So that's 6 of the 8 spots with 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 LB, and 1 FS, it'd be 7 of 9 with another Safety if Tartt isn't ready, so do they keep a 4th TE? a 5th Safety? a 6th LB? Do they keep 3 QBs? idk what will happen, some really tough cuts coming Tuesday.

-They can do a wink wink cut with Gallman but for who if Mitchell is ready to play. They do not want the Rams getting Hasty.
- As long as Hurd comes out of the Raider game not hurt, he'll be one of the 6 WRs
- If Jennings and Hurd are healthy, maybe Sanu gets cut with a wink wink deal but who does he replace on the 53? Maybe Hurd to give him more time to heal.
- They have to keep Griffith (Fred Warner light). He'd be swooped up fast. I think Flan can make PS
- Tartt is one of the 53 that would be replaced the next day. His toe is not there yet.
- Definitely not 3 QBs. Sudfeld makes PS easy. If not, Mullins is available.

Regardless, very exciting Tuesday coming up!

@AB81Rules Can you please explain the benefits of cutting with an injury settlement? If a player is cut with injury settlement, does his salary still count toward the salary cap? I assume it does. Do they do injury settlement so that $920K salary is reduced to whatever settlement is (which will be counted in salary cap)? And from James' point of view, why would he take the settlement unless he thinks he will be healthy before the season ends and another team will sign him? Thanks.

Whatever he were to get as an injury settlement would count.

It wouldn't be anywhere near $920K, but the reason for him to take it is because if the injury isn't season ending, he can play this season, not with us, but with someone else. Tim Harris took one, and he was signed by I think Buffalo to 1 yr deal. Players don't like to sit and not play if they're injury isn't season ending, he'll take a settlement, I can also see Kendricks taking one, but he has $200K GTD.

I like it, maybe sign Gallman to the PS as insurance.

agree on the WRs but wouldn't be shocked if Benjamin beats out Webster.

I didn't count the total, but who takes Hurst's spot? Or do you have 54 with Hurst on IR the next day?

im kinda leaning towards Mayden over Ha Ha.

I think there's only really 7-9 spots open depending on injuries.
I think we trade Kevin Givens for a conditional pick or a backup corner

I think at this point unless they can get a quality CB for him, I'd prefer to just hold onto him

Yep. I believe this defense is all about the front 7.

Agreed
Could Hurd replaced Sanu so that Webster could make the team as the returner? Esp. given Jennings and Matthews can play from the slot too?

Could Jake Brendel be that surprise 53 make this year? There's always one!

Gallman is in because of his experience and ability to pass protect over Mitchell?

A 6th LB or 6th CB? Especially because of Verrett's plantar fasciitis?

What other players will be put on the stash I.R.?

Tartt and Hurst to I.R.?

2 or 3 QB's?

Who's the returner if no Benjamin and Webster on the 53...Aiyuk? Who's his backup?

Wilson or Hufanga as the starting SS?

26 offense and 24 defense again like 2020?

2020 Final 53-Man 49ers Roster Counts

RB/FB: 5
TE: 4
WR: 6
OL: 8 (26)
DL: 9

Any other questions to be answered?
