I highlighted the position of SCB because it sounds like every beat writer has Darqueze Dennard as a lock to start...doesn't mean he'd keep the job but the coaches love him and he is playing at a high level ATM.

I hear ya, just think with Kocurek's history with Hyder will help him keep his spot. If anything we go 11 DL to keep Willis.

SCB wise, not ruling Dennard out, also know they like Womack & Lenoir, so we'll see, just hope the best 53 make it.

Your list is CB heavy but would be a shame to lose any of our latest CB picks to waivers

Yeah, I hope Castro-Fields & Lenoir outplay Johnson, so he is on the PS, I just don't want to lose either, both are signed to cheap deals, Moseley is a UFA in 2023. I doubt Womack gets cut, no a 5th rd pick isn't a lock in most cases, but he is IMO for the 49ers. It comes down to guys like Zakelj, Castro-Fields as guys who aren't locks, and Purdy lol, Davis is a lock for NFI to potentially be back late 2022, but definitely 2023 as I hope the new NT.
This is Nick Wagoner's 53 projection, won't post the entire ESPN+ article, just the roster.

QB(2): Lance, Sudfeld
RB/FB(5): Mitchell, Juice, Davis-Price, Wilson, Sermon
WR(5): Deebo, Aiyuk, Jennings, Gray, McCloud
TE(3): Kittle, Woerner, Dwelley
OL(10): Trent, Banks, Brendel, Brunskill, McGlinchey, Moore, Burford, McKivitz, Skule, Zakelj
DL(10): Bosa, Armstead, Kinlaw, Ebukam, Jackson, Turay, Willis, Omenihu, Ridgeway, Givens
LB(5): Warner, Greenlaw, Al-Shaair, Burks, Gemmel
CB(6): Ward, Moseley, Thomas, Womack, Verrett, Lenoir
S(4): Ward, Hufanga, Moore, Odum
ST(3): Gould, Wish, Pepper

No Hyder, 10 OL, no Castro-Fields, or Johnson or Dennard.

Good predictions. But my eyebrows raised on your points too.

My only thought on the 53 is we got 65-70 nfl players and this may be our most talented roster ever under this regime. Tough decisions to get to 53…

Agreed, hopefully some of those NFL players go on the PS like a Dennard, Johnson, Hurst, Willis, since they don't go through waivers.

Ideally I'd cut Ebukam and his salary and keep Willis and Hyder. But I don't think that's happening, I'd keep Hyder over Willis. Johnson and Dennard should be cut form this roster. I'm not all that high on Castro Fields so him not being on the roster doesn't bother me. I think he makes it and one or 2 of these o lineman are cut.
Mock 2022-23 Roster
It seems most everybody is in alignment on 47 of 53 slots with minor variations on the bottom of the roster. My early take isn't too unique other than forecasting (hoping) that the youth movement at the bottom of the roster, particularly in the CB room is a complete success. As it sits today there will be some VERY tough cuts, but we know that normal pre-season roster attrition will change that. Hopefully not nearly as much as recent seasons.

Offense (24)
(2) QB – Trey Lance, Nate Sudfeld
(5) WR – Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud, Danny Gray
(5) RB – Elijah Mitchell, Kyle Juszczyk (FB), Trey Sermon, Jeff Wilson, Ty Davis-Price
(3) TE – George Kittle, Charlie Woerner, Tyler Kroft
(3) OT – Trent Williams, Mike McGlinchy, Colton McKivitz
(3) IOL – Jake Brendel, Daniel Brunskill, Aaron Banks
(3) G/T - Jaylon Moore, Spencer Burford, Nick Zakelj

Unless Hasty or the other skill position UDFA's show out big I think the offense will yield a slot to the defense. I believe we can roll with five RB's and five WR's and stash depth on the Practice Squad. This is a very straight-forward projection that forecasts all the offensive draft picks making the 53-man, with West and Poe headed to the PS for some seasoning. I'm leaning towards Kroft at TE3 so long as he can hold it down on Special Teams.

Defense (26)
(11) DL – Nick Bosa, Charles Omenihu, Kemoko Turay, Samson Ebukam, Arik Armstead, Javon Kinlaw, Kerry Hyder, Hassan Ridgeway, Kevin Givens, Drake Jackson, Kalia Davis
(4) LB – Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, Azeez Al-Shaair, Oren Burks
(7) CB – Charvarius Ward, Emmanuel Moseley, Ambry Thomas, Jason Verrett, Deommodre Lenoir, Samuel Womack, Tariq Castro Fields
(4) S – Jimmy Ward, George Odom, Talanoa Hufanga, Tarvarious Moore

Wouldn't be shocked to see a repeat of 2021 with Hurst & Willis being cut with Kalia Davis making the initial 53 before moving him to the IRR, then re-signing one or the other. I think we go with four LB's and stash a couple on the PS. I'm choosing to carry seven CB's, again with an optimistic nod to the recent draft classes, again counting on the PS to stash guys like Johnson and Dennard. Wishful thinking?

Special Teams (3)
Pepper, Wishnowski, and Gould

Practice Squad (16)
QB (1) – Brock Purdy
RB (2) – JaMycal Hasty, Jordan Mason
WR (2) – Malik Turner, Tay Martin
TE (1) – Tanner Hudson
OL (3) – Donhovan West, Jason Poe, Justin Skule
DL (2) – Jordan Willis, Kevin Atkins
LB (2) – Jeremiah Gemmel, Segun Olubi
DB (3) – Dontae Johnson, Darqueze Dennard, Leon O'Neal

Not bad Sonoco, I'd change Hudson to Dwelley, he has $250K GTD compared to $0 for Hudson.

With a new running scheme, could Kyle keep 4 TE's again with 5 WR's?

No Hyder, 10 OL, no Castro-Fields, or Johnson or Dennard.

-Hyder will be added
-Agree on Castro-Fields. I think he makes it to PS
-Kyle likes Johnson and Dennard so I think they go with 4 LBs with Gemmel making it to PS and 9 OL with Skule or Zakelj making it to PS
-My hot take is Kroft & Jordan Mathews supplant Woerner & Dwelley or they go with 4 TEs which would make Dwelley the odd man out.

I think 4 TEs are realistic with 5 WRs. Jordan Mathews becomes a much faster Move TE this season over Dwelley. A former decent WR who has gained muscle over over 2 years to come in at 236 lbs this year. He will be able to do deep seam routes that Dwelley just can't do.
I would rather protect an extra Ol or DL than a TE that doesn't even crack our top two.
