It's Amazing How We're the Darlings Of The NFL

Just a few years ago we were a joke. I just wanted to point that out. Press coverage always seems overly positive with people calling our coach a "genius" and our GM is articulate and likable.

As much as we bicker on here, I don't think many realize how good we have it. Savor these moments when every year we're in contention and mentioned in the Super Bowl conversations.

We don't have the hardware to show for it right now, but it's coming. Just thought I'd provide some context.
Credit where credit is due. Jed.

wasn't too long ago fans were paying to have messages flown over the stadium. Our FO was a joke and Jed was completely hated. Jed decided it was time to get football people and to let them do their job. And he hired the right people. Gave them long term contracts, and got the hell out of the way.

Thank you Jed.
While I appreciate that we are no longer the tomsula 49ers, let's start celebrating when we have 2 winning seasons. As far as I can see, we have only had one winning season in the last 4 years. Consistency would be nice before we start anointing the franchise.
No we are not. Lol

the one good season we had everyone called us pretenders that would eventually get exposed by a real team

The media still hates this team, and that will never change. This is the real reason all of the Mac Jones smokescreen talk exists. They wanted us to pick him

To be fair Tomsula only won 1 less game his rookie season as Shanny did in his 4th.

That settles it! fire Shanahan and bring Tomsula home!
Nice post BleedsR&G...there is a lot of moaning and groaning about some things, but anybody that criticizes this draft is downright ungrateful. We had to have 2 OLs, (but i hoped for 3)...and chase out the old , injured dead wood. We had to have 2 corners....same idea. And a safety...the RBs were admittedly huge surprises, esp in rd. 3. Just shows that kyle can change in mid course and not just go sign guys for RB off the street.

The obvious pick tho was Trey. As John and kyle said, they did their usual "Mums the word" and a whole bunch of fans on the WZ went nutty when it realized the pick was Mac. As Kyle said, it was just an echo chamber. And the press was worse about it. They KNEW it was Mac. I think we might have taken Mac had we stayed at #12. But once that move to #3 was made, that ship didn't sail.

Press of course flayed us with a whip, "How stupid to move up 9 slots to get a guy they could have had at #12 ? The thinking on that (mine also) was that was where Mac probably fit with 41 TDs, 4 INTs, 77% . But Kyle nor john never said a peep. And the WZ got involved basically calling JL and Kyle out. Most of those were newer posters tho some were vets.

But when the curtain went up, their was a huge sigh of relief here, (WZ) and a bunch of sportscasters walking around with egg on their faces. Granted a very few called it , but not many. The Fields thing was an odd situation, where he suddenly one day dropped out of sight. Something was released , we don't know what...but I'd bet money it may have been related to epilepsy , and wasn't a good report (I'm guessing a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy) . Admittedly i have no idea what it actually was but something strange happened when Fields name just dropped off the 9ers radar.
Maybe it was even speculation on the WZ itself.

But post draft, lots of folks had to rethink the 9ers as Kyle and john did take a major league leap of faith with Trey. The 1 season of college ball at D-1A school will do that. Mainly, i think, a bunch of people had to make it up to the 9er GM/HC/Asst GM because they had been abused both here on WZ and in the press of making a dumb Mac move. In fact, our guys keeping their mouths shut set it all in motion. The gullible ones looked bad.

And perhaps, that is where some of the new 9er love comes from. Frankly, i think it is love that is justified , in that they filled the holes with 2 each OLs and CBs, plus a safety. The 3 RBs...we'll see. But overall, any praise we get post draft is truly well earned and once again we see the massive benefit of saying nothing and letting it play out. Trent Baalke was on TV a number of times letting everyone know what hey were doing. Man I'm glad he's over there, and not here.

It does seem like the team is more relevant in the eyes of the national media now compared to the Tomsula/Chip days, and even the early Shanahan years. Not sure about darlings. One way to tell is in the number of scheduled prime time games. Got flexed out of a couple games last year but that was because of the how the injuries crippled the team.

Let's see how many prime time games they get this season. I think when a team gets two SNF, or two MNF, that's a good sign the league thinks the team is interesting to the general fan base.
We were the national media darlings for providing #1 pick drama to pick #3. It won't be that way for long. I think a lot of them feel kinda butt hurt after being made to look silly. The daggers will be out soon after Lance's first preseason incomplete pass or rookie mistake.
I think people need to realize how much both Kyle and John's tenure rides on the Lance pick. I admire the balls out, swing for the fence attitude, but if this pick flops, they could be out. If that's the case, the 49ers will still be an attractive spot because of the remaining talent, so they'll probably still be able to get the latest trending guy(s) to run the ship. It's also a step towards the Singletary/Erickson/Tomsula regimes. We as fans were lucky to rebound from that crap twice, but the longer you live on the edge, the greater the chance you go over.

If Lance hits....then we are all in for a pretty good ride I believe.
I mean it's not hard to figure out why. We are the San Francisco 49ers, a legacy team in a big market with a
Massive fanbase like the Steelers, Cowboys, Packers. The only thing is that the media is usually against us because most of these media personalities are from the east coast and we were always the big baddies from out west. Regardless, we will draw a lot of attention, good or bad, as long as we are winning/making winning moves.
