Dude it's not only looking bleak this season but it looks like it's gonna be bleak for some time before we back to super bowl , with no firsts for awhile, how it's been like being a niners fan, harbs era was last successful era we had really, consistent winning seasons, this Kyle lynch has been a one year wonder only so far
I am afraid you might be right.
I see Trey Lance as a 3 year project before we know whether he is boom, serviceable or bust.
So, the quickest wait will be 3 years and by then many of our current star players will already be towards the end of their big contracts, meaning we probably wouldn't have been able to take advantage of Lance's cheap contract, that is if he works out of course.
But, if Lance doesn't pan out? Then, I am afraid I can't look that far ahead to even have a rough guess how long it will take before we can get back to the big dance.
Sure hope he works out because if he doesn't this regime will be fired and we looking at another complete turn over, man the future not looking good, Kyle needs to right this ship ASAP while we have the prime years of these star players like bosa and kittle
That was what I meant, if we ever were to get to the point of firing Shanahan and therefore creeping into the next regime, first of all you wouldn't even know whether the organization would still go with Lance as the new HC would most likely want to sign or draft his own QB.
Let's be honest, Lance is not ready, so there really isn't all that much Shanahan can do at this point to fix him apart from keep getting him to play scouts team QB. I don't think you can just throw him in there now, he will look completely lost like yesterday. But, if they do, they may have to write off the entire season. Just to put things into context, when we started Kap, he had already been sitting behind Alex Smith for a year and a half. There is a reason why some teams/HCs believe in sitting rookies, same thing with Mahomes. To add, did you know Lance had only played 18 games in college? And do you know how many games did Kap play? 51!! This was why Kap was totally ready when his number was called.
Would it be better to waste this season and let Lance develop and grow or let him make these mistakes next year and waste that season also?
That is the executive decision the organization has to make. If they throw in the towel now after 4 games, they need to manage the fans' expectations.
You have to remember the idea from day one was to play Jimmy until Lance is ready which was why Jed said he is prepared to keep Jimmy all the way until the end of his contract if needed.
Kap didn't need to waste a season to get ready. He got himself ready behind the scene. You know something? When the back-up QB is ready and playing lights out as the scouts team QB, people (as in the players) talk which was exactly what happened with Kap. For Lance, may be he needs to ball out as the scouts team QB first.
I as a fan have don't have expectations of a superbowl. I would rather see this guy get the rookie mistakes out this year so next year is growth.
But, there is a basic level of proficiency he needs before you can just throw him out there, if he keeps making mistakes you could potentially destroy his confidence. May be we should have considered Lances' extreme lack of experience before we drafted him. For example, Justin Fields had played almost double the amount of games Lance did in college.
Besides, there are a ton of 9ers fans out there who would think you are nuts to write off the entire season just 4 games in at 2-2. May be if we lose a few more perhaps.
