Realistic expectations for the season.

Dont see the d. Stepping up. No pressure no run d and sit-back mentality in dbs. Could get very ugly.

Will be happy with wild card.
Very difficult to compete when starting your 4th string RB & CBs pulled off the street.
The next two games will tell the tale! Win both and we are on our way to another possible SB! Split looks like a good playoff run! Lose both and we are in deep trouble! And we bargained the ranch with giving away all the picks we gave to get Trey, pray it was worth it! Hopefully it all works out?

Sticking with my 10-7 prediction.
My realistic expectations pretty much change week to week. Here's how it's gone so far...

During offseason - Superbowl expectations
After beating the Lions - Wildcard team
After beating the Eagles - NFC West champs
After losing to the Packers - Wildcard team

1) Realistic expectation is making the playoffs.

2) Unrealistic expectation is making the playoffs with major injuries.

Getting too close to number 2
Not getting absolutely destroyed by The Rams would be a positive

Yep. You need both. They traded for a top level stud. A proven stud. He makes the entire secondary better. For some reason we seem to think having pass rush solves everything. We just lost the super bowl with an elite pass rush b/c our db's f**ked up.

We lost to the Ravens after our db's made Flacco look like Montana. And we had a great pass rush that year as well. A great pass rush isn't getting home every play. guys still need to be able to cover.

no we did not.. remember in the super bowl. cowboy aldon and brooks were all hurt.... so what did we do. we have bowman and willlis play checkers in pass coverage just like we had fred doing sunday which helped allow joe and rodgers to eat us up

4th and last place in the division is very very real and not being competitive in division games is very real in my opinion

I still see this team winning 11 games and losing 6 in this extended season.

Our run game allows lesser RBs to run with success.

We had one CB go down, Lynch should have drafted Samuel. We're very fortunate Lenoir is decent, but if EMan goes down we don't have depth.

The problem is the league doesn't respect Jimmy. 8-10 in the box means pass, but his hot window is in that box (basically over the middle). Until he can move that box we're running like a Jimmy Rae offense.

Our run game does allow lesser talents to be productive, but not anywhere near the level Mostert is when healthy. He is the exact type of back Shannahan needs for his run game to be off the charts. Without that home run threat it goes from off the charts to well above average. And with Jimmy not being h a threat deep, it leads to a very condensed field and that play action isn't there like it is with Mostert

When Jimmy first got here didn't we have Hyde still running the ball and a lesser line ? He used to at least try to throw downfield even if he missed most over the top. In 2019 he had Sanders who went all out diving and falling to catch those balls.

Jimmys time is short, let's hope the kid Lance learns and develops quickly. Chances are Jimmy goes down sometime this season anyway for a minor injury and that's when we can preview what Lance has.
If the 49ers can formulate the running game expectations are high.
