Very difficult to compete when starting your 4th string RB & CBs pulled off the street.

Our run game allows lesser RBs to run with success.

We had one CB go down, Lynch should have drafted Samuel. We're very fortunate Lenoir is decent, but if EMan goes down we don't have depth.

The problem is the league doesn't respect Jimmy. 8-10 in the box means pass, but his hot window is in that box (basically over the middle). Until he can move that box we're running like a Jimmy Rae offense.

Our run game does allow lesser talents to be productive, but not anywhere near the level Mostert is when healthy. He is the exact type of back Shannahan needs for his run game to be off the charts. Without that home run threat it goes from off the charts to well above average. And with Jimmy not being h a threat deep, it leads to a very condensed field and that play action isn't there like it is with Mostert

When Jimmy first got here didn't we have Hyde still running the ball and a lesser line ? He used to at least try to throw downfield even if he missed most over the top. In 2019 he had Sanders who went all out diving and falling to catch those balls.

Jimmys time is short, let's hope the kid Lance learns and develops quickly. Chances are Jimmy goes down sometime this season anyway for a minor injury and that's when we can preview what Lance has.

I agree with pretty much your whole post.
But with all that, we don't really have a deep threat like Manny Sanders. Deebo and Yook are more horizontal, shifty and quick guys than fly route and go guys. We may have to tinker with personnel a bit to fit Treys strengths.
Realistic? .500 ball. Tough division, dink and dunk QB and team injuries nets us 8 or 9 wins.
wildcard and first round exit

injuries man…

hope i'm wrong!

I agree with the wildcard expectation. Once you're in the playoffs, who knows.

My biggest concern is our run defense. So far it has seemed like everyone has been able to run the ball against us. Which makes for a lot of 3rd and 5 situations where our pass rushers can't just play the pass.

Our winning formula in 2019 was to make opponents 1 dimensional. Both by getting ahead early and by dominating the run game. Teams quickly had to abandon the run, then our pass rushers feasted. We are really missing a dominate presence in the middle of the DL. Letting Buckner walk was a mistake IMHO. Kinlaw is not at that level yet. He still could get there. Buckner took a 2-3 seasons before he was dominating. But right now we are still missing that presence.

Judging by the way the other, more experienced rookie QBs have played so far, I don't want to "preview" what Lance has. He needs to sit and learn a lot more.

Buck was dominate and nearly indestructible as a rookie when he led the league in snaps for a dlineman racking up 73 tacklesn 7 tfl and 6 sacks while facing constant double teams.
I'm sorry to not be more positive, but what I saw from both offensive and defensive lines was not auspicious. They were handled easily, it seemed. Bosa could not even slightly throw Rodgers off in those infamous 37 seconds. They handled him. A couple back-ups helped their teammates and they just handle him and the others (yes, a no call on Ebukam was unfortunate, but I hate depending in that). Rodgers just toyed with our secondary. The Garoppolo fumble - whatever unluckily happened with his intent - was just pathetic. Samuels was right there for a handoff, and it must be asked how did that rusher get in there so quickly and easily? Tomlinson looks like the culprit. I did not see a smooth running game like GB had. I did not see a great pass rush or run defense. I hope I'm eating crow in the next month, but this team is just above mediocrity. I was so certain the defensive line was going to dictate the game against a depleted GB offensive line. They handled the Niners. They handled them admirably. It is what it is.

I see winning the division, if not, a wild card birth.
Wildcard. And getting healthy.
7th seed playoff spot.
This team is reaping what they sowed: drafting the wrong players, at the wrong positions, and counting on injury-prone players. Shanahan the co-general manager is the worst of his roles. They can't scheme or play their way out of these flaws. 9ers miss the playoffs.
still sticking too staying healthy.

It's the biggest obstacle we face every season.

Yea but those teams that Wilson, Lawrence, and Fields are on are quite trash. I'd argue that Chicago ain't so bad, but Nagy.

Lance is on a much better team. He shouldn't get exposed like those QBs are getting. I think we all know Lawrence has the tools to be elite, but the team of a potato.

Yes! We had a shot at Asante Jr and we let that opportunity slip thru our fingers. We'll live to regret that move.
I predicted 10-7 in the PYMWYMI thread and that is what this team looks like.
