This is how I would play it too. If Jimmy gets injured and we need a backup for Trey there will be players available who are no worse than Sudfield.

And in any case, if we lose both Jimmy and Trey we're not getting anyone who is going to be able to save our season regardless.

So QB# is meh in comparison to how deep other positions are and how much quality we have there that's worth keeping.
