SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at DETROIT LIONS - 2021 Game 1

Heck, Hurts could be a bit of a challenge next week for the same reason. Still think we dominate but he can scramble and make the secondary run around for a bit to find holes.

I'm not worried about not calling holding based off one game. It's well known that certain crews call holding much tighter than others. I don't think this is some new trend in the league that's going to allow it. If it is then it benefits our offense too. Penalties always have been and always will be subjective. Even before we had replays there were controversial calls and non calls. You just hope they eventually even out.

Besides, if every call went our way, what would we have to complain about on Monday. It's always been a convenient excuse when we lose.

True, no panic but it certainly tilts the lever against teams built like ours on the strength of a D-line. The league clearly wants more offense and I think it's only a matter of time until CB's pull away from DE's in importance as that trend continues and team builds like ours are less effective.

If they do start allowing more holding, it might be because college linemen aren't as skilled at pass blocking as they used to be. it's no secret that it gets harder every year to find really good O linemen.

Gotta agree there to. Just a shame that they can't be consistent in the calls no matter whom is playing. It is one of the things that ruined basketball for me in that certain players got a call and others didn't. I get it from a marketability standpoint but as a fan I want talent to win, not reputation.
Positives:
  • Jimmy looked good and the rotation with Lance doesn't appear to be a hinderance
  • Running game remains lethal, regardless of who's actually running
  • Mitchell may end up being our RB1 for awhile, which I would not have guessed
  • Deebo looks great, Kittle too (but don't use your head to secure an on-sides kick )
  • Pass rush was pretty good, but honestly I thought it was going to be better
  • LB corp looks lethal!
  • O-line looked very solid

Negatives:
  • CB depth, which was already thin is now very concerning
  • Thomas & Lenoir both struggled and we're going to need at least one of them to shine
  • Ward and Tartt actually didn't look very good, hopefully we can see a rebound from them
  • Aiyuk & Sermon - I don't know what's going on there, hopefully they feel a fire under their @sses
  • Lance rushing, just surprising more than disappointing. I'm sure those will open up

Overall:
  • The NFC West is devastating. All four teams look like top-10 teams.
  • Our offense looks very solid, our defense appears to be taking a step back
  • With the lack of talent at CB, we should expect to see higher scoring games
  • There are a few teams that may be looking for a QB - specifically WAS. Could be interesting over the next few weeks.

We are not trading Jimmy G

Thomas struggled, sure. Lenoir?? Are we even watching the same game. He looked very impressive to me.

I think that if it's week 5 or so and the NFC East is still middling, and QB stability for WAS is the difference between playoff and not, then maybe.

The Question is would this management take a 1st in 2022 for Jimmy G ?

We're not trading any QB this year.

This. Short of some team throwing the same sort of compensation that the 49ers used to move up for Lance, Garoppolo isn't getting anywhere. He more than proved his value yesterday and having extra injury insurance at the position is never a bad thing.

Dallas nearly beat Tampa and the Iggles absolutely throttled Atlanta. Its only Week 1 but neither of those teams looked particularly middling. Giants definitely look like the basement team in that division.
Can't believe I pushed on the -8 line. Was livid lol

The Eagles game reminded me of winning week 1 with both Tomsula and Kelly. I agree Dallas looks pretty good.
