Hopefully it is a lesson learned that you don't pull starters and take the foot of the gas (ahem ahem the fans asking for Trey to come in 3rd quarter for reps) and DONT PLAY PREVENT DEFENSE. Prevent defense prevents wins.

I get they ended up being a thriller, but the truth is the only reason Detroit even had a chance was because of a few bad bounces on our part (Kittle onside kick, Deebo fumble, etc). Niners had full control til the end, and it seems like from listening to most NFL pundits this morning no one is making any noise regarding "oh my god what is happening to the 49ers?!"

I agree. The last 3 minutes were very flukey... I feel good about this team, concerned about the secondary, but I think we did what we needed and now we're on to the Eagles, who either caught lightning in a bottle week 1 or are substantially undervalued.

True, no panic but it certainly tilts the lever against teams built like ours on the strength of a D-line. The league clearly wants more offense and I think it's only a matter of time until CB's pull away from DE's in importance as that trend continues and team builds like ours are less effective.
If they do start allowing more holding, it might be because college linemen aren't as skilled at pass blocking as they used to be. it's no secret that it gets harder every year to find really good O linemen.
Gotta agree there to. Just a shame that they can't be consistent in the calls no matter whom is playing. It is one of the things that ruined basketball for me in that certain players got a call and others didn't. I get it from a marketability standpoint but as a fan I want talent to win, not reputation.
For the record , you see it in baseball too. Umps have different strike zones even though the rule book spells out what the strike zone should be. One guy calls high strikes. The next guy has a tight zone. Another one might call strikes 6"off the plate. It all comes down to human error. The action on the field is frenetic and the officials can easily be looking at a different spot when a hold happens. They have 22 players to watch which means about 11 one on one battles. They aren't going to see everything and they often have their field of vision blocked off. Remember, these players are massive and a big O lineman can easily block the view as he grabs a handful of jersey. That's why some teams actually encourage their linemen to hold since they know it will only be caught a small number of times. We get to see the replays and slow motion. They don't have that advantage. It's always going to be a problem as long as humans are making the calls in real time.

Yep. Holding is definitely being used by o line more. I think defensive line men need to be using this tacit more. Like when the Justin and Aldon were doing it and teams were b***hing about it. Worth a shot. I honestly I haven't been paying attention to our defense front to know if it is being used at this time.

That's just great. The team has tuned out their coach and no one is listening to him.

Its great that Mitchell is playing well. Its not a good look to move up for a guy in the 3rd and have him getting beat out by 7th rounders and UDFA's.
