Keys to winning:
1. Ebukam for AA d/t Hurts. AA inside d/t no Kinlaw
2. Ebukam, AA, Ford and Key, hold the rushes wide with patience. Send LB/S/CB's from the edges to force Hurts into the wide delayed rush. Delayed middle blitzes by Warner. Saleh did this perfectly against Wilson last year.
3. CB's are going to have to play tighter d/t the short passing game.
4. S's and LB's are going to have to play patient and disciplined.
5. DL will have to hold. Their OL absolutely owned the LOS against ATL.
6. Jimmy and the offense will need long sustaining drives that eat clock and score TD's.
7. Hightower better be ready for punt rushes and tight punt/kickoff coverages.
8. With Greenlaw out and Azeez in, we might see more nickel and an extra DB instead of that SAM (Marcell Harris)
Pretty darn good summary NC. Just hard to believe the week before NFL began, we had the makings of 12 stud DLs…Hurst out, AA a maybe, Kin a maybe, and 2 CBs gone. Yasu Pisu, this can't be happening again. Of course we could be the Cowboys who lost their best OL (Zack Martin) and their best DL (Lawrence) plus 2 or 3 other starters. Still, the walking wounded for us is just gut wrenching. Oh, and we lost Greenlaw one of our two best LBs. IDK, losing players like this just is a heartbreaker.
as for the above, we have one magic trick up our sleeves and that is our scout team has been run by a running QB…a damn good one…Trey. So even tho Hurts will be a problem for us as all Running QBs are, we did get some really excellent practice on how to stop Hurts' runs. DEs are just going to have to be sure and contain. Just another Bennie from Trey.
Our 2ndary has been the issue all along, but between Huf and Lenoir, i kind of expect some unexpectedly good play. Ebuk could be the real factor on D, because he can run down Hurts…and he is tough. I do hope we don't open on D in the WIDE wide 9s, (as JD said, 9 5 5 9, leaving G C G with no DT in front of them). After the first few series that changed to 9 3 1 9 and the gimme runs up the gut stopped.
I had overly optimistic expectations for Demeco this yr, but forgot he has to get used to being a DC first and that takes some game experience. Kyle no doubt will be engaged in helping call the D, but the sooner Demeco is up and running the better.
One thing I definitely want to see is Kyle be all over the refs like a wet blanket on a hot fire if Philly starts playing hold and grab. We saw enough of that in Detroit, and if we see even the first little bit of it, KYle needs to immediately tell the refs to STOP THE effing holding.
As for STs, we need some production. Good punt coverage would be nice, same on K.O. But it is time to see a WISH worm burner , aka "grubber" (remember the one that hit Kittle in the face guard?), and some wobbler punts would be appreciated also. Those come down like a duck with one wing in a hurricane. .
Kyle is money coaching against Philly's HC, and I hope Jimmy gives us another game like in Detroit. Our OL couldn't have played better.
Bottom line is how well will our DBs play and can our depleted DL put enough pressure on Hurts to help out our DBs. An unexpected 1st or 2nd down blitz from corners or maybe a S on occasion wouldn't hurt either. I think kyle wins this one with JG, KIttle, Sherfield, Deebo, Au Jus, and who knows, maybe Aiyuk. Running game …plan to see a lot of it.
Niners in a squeaker.
