I will say this (not to beat a dead horse)….
IF we had drafted Aaron Rodgers first overall in that 2005 NFL draft, the entire trajectory of this team…hell, the entire league…would have been different. There is no doubt in my mind that we would've been a dynasty, and the Patriots / 49ers rivalry for dominance of the 2010s would have been EPIC (on par with the rivalry we had with the 90s Cowboys).
Now, mind you, with Aaron Rodgers as our QB the makeup of this team would have been different. Do we get to draft some of those same players because of draft positioning ? Do we get the opportunity to get coached by Harbaugh or maybe Kyle Shanahan? Doubt it, given that Rodgers probably wouldn't allow this team to become a cellar dweller prompting coaching changes at the pace we did since that infamous draft.
Regardless, we can only dream about the coulda, woulda, shouldas when it comes to ARod. I, no doubt, will be rooting for a Packers massacre come Sunday night. But I'm sure all of us, at least at one point during the game, will have that thought cross our mind of what could've been.
With that said, go NINERS
You are 100% incorrect. Rodgers is a total prick, and he almost ruined his chance in GB because of his immature attitude. If a well run organization like GB almost couldn't handle him, the dumpster fire mid 00's 49ers would've had no shot. We had no OL, no WR, a revolving door at OC, and Nolan and Singletary were both defensive minded coaches who had no idea how to develop a QB.
Rodgers would've been an epic disaster in SF. Alex Smith has the patience of a saint for enduring the terrible state of the team for the first 6 years of his career, taking all the blame for the losing from the fans. Rodgers would've melted down by year 3 in that mess. No doubt.
As tough as it was to whiff on a HOF, the results of Rodgers' career would have been much different if he had been taking 1st overall by his hometown team. He would've had no chip on his shoulder from free falling to the late 1st. Plus we've ended Rodgers' season in the playoffs THREE times. He's overrated.
